Default Anyone use straight tail worms jerk-style?

The 7" worm on the left is a Softie Worm. The one in the right is a Yamamoto Kut tail worm. The one under those two is a Kut tail worm added to a grub body.

When working water mid-depth, these and other tailless worms have an action similar to a Zara Spook surface lure with its zig-zag action. Rigging them on a 1/16 oz jig is important for working them at the same depth by jerking them with the rod tip. Even this small bas couldn't resist:

Not all plastic worms can do this - they must have the right plastic and shape.

Yep-weightless with a kink in the worm so it doesn't hang straight. Use a ball bearing swivel a few inches above the bait to eliminate line twist.
