Joe's crazy idea for today
Ok, I guess we all know Kevin no longer needs/wants/uses BassFishing.com
SO... How about a group of us get together and offer to buy it. We got lawyers, accountants, entrepreneurs, computer experts, reel specialists, pole builders, lure makers/sellers and ALOT of other strong members with an insane amount of talent. Some successful sites sell for as little as a couple hundred dollars and yes, some for a lot more. So lets talk it over. See where it leads. Again, this is just an idea I feel is worth talking about. I DO NOT have the expertise to do this on my own (took me 5 months to figure out how to post a picture) plus I have a business I hold dear to my heart already. I don't know if I want to take on a project like this by myself. But I do know marketing and sales. I do know how to find and talk to the right guy, (except Kevin ) and I do have a BIG INTEREST. So FREINDS, lets talk about it. If you think the idea is just flat out stupid, feel free to say so. Again, this is an idea...NOTHING MORE.

I wouldn't even consider it Joe. This is, and has always been Kevins site. It is what it is because of Kevin. There are a few snags from time to time, but Kevin will eventually take care of it to the best of his ability. If he wants our help, he can ask for it.

Ok.
Do you want to buy the site as a business opportunity (for profit)? or Do you want to buy the site to preserve a place for all of us to speak? Because if all you want is to preserve a place for this group to get together an discuss, it would probably be much cheaper to start our own, cheap, invite only board. That said, Im not at this moment terribly bothered by all the bots at the bottom of the screen.

All real great points anglers.
One thing I need to be very clear on. This site would/should ALWAYS have KEVINS input. In NO way was this about eliminating KEVIN. Kevin from my research isn't only GREATLY RESPECTED here but in the Bass Fishing community as a whole. Kevins videos are some of the best made. This is about eliminating the tasks that make 'web site ownership' unappealing. The tasks stick is talking about. And HE KNOWS what it takes. And sometimes for a great idea to continue to survive a transition of tasks happens. This is about keeping a great site, great. Kevin is why this site grew into the great community it became. Trust me,I've been hanging around here long before I ever joined. As I still do other sites....but I've ONLY joined this community. (Sorry anglers) This IS NOT an attempt to be UNDER MINING anything Kevin wants to accomplish. Nor do anything behind Kevins back. Fact is, if I had anyway of reaching Kevin, this discussion would have started as a PM to Kevin. Remember, there was a site set up sort of when the Koreans attacked the site. So just a hunch...others have thought about this before this thread started. Only thing worse than running a site is starting a site, followed closely by generating traffic. If the regulars just want a place to talk to friends...that's a chat room, not a website/forum. The beauty of this site is not just the regulars but the newbies too! Chat rooms don't survive because, no new blood. Forums are driven by websites not chat rooms. Forums allow complete strangers to join, not just good friends. Forums help you learn things you didn't even know, you needed to know. I really do like the fact that this thread has started off so great.

I still think it comes down to appointing a few trusted people to moderate this site. If we could keep the bots at bay and keep the spam posts deleted, everyone would be happy, happy, happy.

I agree. If Kevin wants to run the site without the help of moderators, fine. But he needs to make more of an effort to keep an eye on things and not wait for us all to do a week long man hunt just to run him down and ask him to please take care of something on here. He has promised to be on here more often a handful of times and then he vanishes until our next issue that leads to another week long man hunt. It's Kevins site, and for a long time it has been nothing short of awesome. But it's becoming less enjoyable all the time because of all this stuff. I have no interest in buying this site, but I am more than willing to help with a new one if needed.

I have found myself spending more time on BBC than here. But just to many people on BBC for my taste. Pros and cons to it I guess.

I enjoy reading some of the stuff on BBC. And if I am really searching for a specific answer to a question or how to do something more times than not I go to BBC because there are a lot of people on there and chances are I can find the information I am looking for. However the group of people that we have here is a lot more fun to talk with, and we seem to come up with a lot more "outside the box" type of ideas here.

Never heard of BBC. What is that? But I would like to see Kevin appoint a couple here as mederators to clean up whats been going on. I know the group in here is a great bunch of folks who will bend over backwards to help each other. Try and find that on any other site. I really hate to see BF.COM sliding downhill.
