Lowrance-5dsi
Need some expertise and opinions please. My old unit a Lowrance 522igps got water in it and was ruined a few months ago. I have been doing a little research, looking on ebay etc for another one.
I have finally narrowed replacement choice to the Lowrance-5dsi unit. My main issue is a good GPS unit and i really like the dsi features seeing trees etc. It will be on a 17ft Basstracker transducer on back of boat. I am not very tech savvy on any of this so the easier the unit to figure the better. One question i do have is how far out to side of the boat does this show up detail. Thanks for any input. |

The Elite 5 DSI is a good unit for its price, no doubt. IMO, a better buy would be the Elite 7 HDI - bigger screen, has both 2D sonar and DSI, and just as easy to operate. The Elite 5 DSI does not have 2D sonar.
Regarding downscan beam coverage, on 800 kHz your lateral beam coverage is about the same as the water depth. On 455 kHz, you get about 40% more coverage as the depth (i.e., 42 feet in 30 feet of water).
