Default Deep or shallow?

Im relatively a shallow water fisherman. I don't know whay, but I ALWAYS fish 2-5ft of water..and I really don't wonder out from that range.. I just don't feel comfortable fishing deep water (although my local lake is not deep at all). What are the pros and cons to fishing shallow/deep. And what are the best baits to use in each dilema.

Regards,

I find that two of the easiest ways to break out of a "shallow fishing" rut are to 1) find deep weedbeds, grass is best, and throw a lipless crankbait. when you get in the weeds, rip it loose and let it flutter back down. The other way 2) that I would use is to find points in 10-15' of water and toss a football jig, working it across the points. If you use your electronics these should produce fish for you.
