The New Shimano Cumulus
Maybe it's just me, but there is just something about a brand new rod or reel on the market that is very exciting. I figured, with the Cumara being shimano's most expensive rod, it was only a matter of time, before they brought out a high priced rod out to challenge the Steez and JDM rods.
So, here's the first look at the new shimano Cumulus rods from TT. The lightest rods weighs in at 2.75 oz and the heaviest in the series weighs in at 3.6 oz. Of course, premium rods come at a premium price. The spinning rods will be $350 and the Casting will be $400 . Sticker shock anybody? http://www.tackletour.com/reviewbigrock10shimano.html BB

Those are very pretty. It makes you wonder just how much lighter these rods can be made. Pretty soon, they're gonna be fabbing them out of synthetic spidersilk.

The St. Croix 7-footer is 4.2 oz, a wee bit heavier. Interesting Shimano doesn't offer a 7'6" or a 7'11" Cumulus. I do notice that the Cumulus lacks the recoil guides. Does Shimano have a rod with the recolis? Curious how much they would charge compared to St. Croix.

They got this line up really quick and they might slowly add more models. I don't think there is a single line of shimanos with recoils. I realize that they're functional, but dang, they just plain flat out look hideous to me and I would prefer the sics. That said, if someone handed me a rod to try with recoils, I'd try it.

What would I get from the Cumulus that I wouldn't get from the Cumara? That's a lot of change to spend for a few ounces of difference. Still probably is a top of the line rod. And if I was to pair the Cumulus with my 6.7oz 2010 Revo Premier it would be around 9 to 10oz depending on the rod specs.

Wow! Those are some sick looking rods! Very light, but also very expensive. I'd really like to handle some of these though, being so impressed with out the cumara felt with a core on it. I'd really like to handle it with a core on it too! One thing I think they could have done to take off a half oz or so, is to incorporate micro guides on it!
And bigB, did you see this? http://www.tackletour.com/reviewbigrock10lines.html
