Knot question
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImBz0...ture=endscreen
So I've seen 'similar' but knot exactly the same. Seems way to easy and the knot in no way seems to give me the confidence of a double San Diego or Palomar, but I felt the same about the Palomar before using it. Seems even easier than a Palomar. So whats it's name and who's used it? Does it hold on a Fluoro knot, I'm sticking to palomar for braid and use a double san diego on Fluoro and coplys now. The double San Diego is a good knot but can be challenging on or in the field or water. Keeping the knot from binding itself in the wind has caused cutting and re-tying more than once for me.

It's certainly an easy knot to remember how to tie. I would be interested in knowing where he got the information that suggests it's a 100% knot though. Just because a 15 year old kid that looks stoned out of his mind says it is a 100% knot doesn't make it the case.

Says he got it from a US Flyfishing Team member.
Flyfishermen usually know thier knots. Enjoying God's gifts isn't just a fishing thing I guess. (stoned)

I may have to try that one. The knot I use on my fluoro is a complete PITA to tie, but I haven't had a failure on it yet. I can't remember what it's called either...LOL!

I'm pretty skeptical. It looks too simple, not enough turns or wraps. You guys let us know how it works out for you.

Thanks for posting that joe. Might make life a lot simplier for me. With bad fingers that looks so easy. Gonna try it next time out.

I once gave a presentation to seniors on basic knot tying and I quickly learned how difficult some knots were for them to tie, even the super easy palomar! It was challenging for them because of either their eyes, shaking hands, or both! I would be reluctant to use that with braid. I will try in the next time I go bass fishing, but that probably won't be until next year!

I'm partial to knots that have two lines/strands through the hook eye (like the Palomar). In fact, this not starts out JUST LIKE the Palomar, but only a single line/strand.
The ending clinches the tag end vs. looping the hook/lure like a Palomar does. My point is, this not is actually very similar to the Palomar... so am wondering why you couldn't also tie it with a double stand/line, but just "clinch" instead of "loop"?? |

It's kind of like a Perfection Loop knot (another fly fishing fav) without the loop.

i just put that knot to the test, and with mono, it breaks in the knot everytime, and with braid it slipped. so, for my two cents, that is more than that knot is worth.

I put the knot today to the test. It didn’t break or slip but I was using fluorocarbon line….well leader anyway. Seaguar red label with a chigger craw.6 lbs 2 under 2lbs one 3lbs and 3 from 3 to 4lbs with no breaks and no slips. I’m impressed so far because the knot is so simple to tie which means I will be a lot more willing to retie…..although I didn’t today. Again my test was strictly with fluorocarbon. Thanks Jdog

I think I'll stay with the polymar knot. Never failed me yet.

Please understand everyone, I'm just sharing these ideas, not promoting or really even using them...yet anyways.

Here is a video of the knot I was referring to that I use with flouro:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3I905PXIYww Maybe what makes it a PITA to tie is the fact I add one more step in there. I run the looped end through the "bottom" loop (between the eye of the hook/lure and the bottom of the twist) and then back through loop where Shaw finished this knot off in the video. I've been using it for some time and have not had a single knot failure. |

Shane that's my go to knot. And I tie it exactly the way YOU do! It for me is 'cumbersome' in the field and in the wind. I've probably tied it 500 times and there are still times in the field that the knot tightens when slide it down to tighten before the hook eyelet. A lot of my knot tying is done in the water in the elements. So you got a pole under one arm trying to keep reel out of the river or water then tying the knot. Part of the reason I stumbled on these knots was in an effort to simplify my knot tying in water. Great knot. The only thing I know about this knot is that the fly-fisherman I know, and I know quite a few, ALL CAN tie GREAT, STRONG knots. If a fly guy says it's strong, well I have a tendency to believe.

LMAO, very true! The elements are the biggest butt kicker when trying to tie that knot on the go or uncooperative line! I have full faith and confidence in the knot.

Ok I have seen this knot on the bay used by Captains long ago. It was for attaching the main line of 60 lb mono to the three way swivel. One exception was the tag end got an overhand knot and was pulled up tight at the end of the clinch. The tag end would not slip out with the overhand in place.
It was used for trolling with 16 oz - 24 oz drop sinkers. Capt Mike

Thanks Mike.
So...is it a good knot or a poor Knot? Have you used it and what do you think of your results?
