Haahah! Fun aint it? Only been once myself, but looking forward to this year's gun season.
Wish I had prepared for bow season this year, but breaking my wrist sorta screwed stuff up.

Deer hunting is just as addictive as fishing. The only benefit is that once the upfront cost is met, it's really not quite as expensive. You have to keep buying tackle along with other stuff all fishing season long. But there are fewer things to nickel and dime you during hunting season. I sat in deer stands with my dad and grandpa since I was a very little fella until the time I was old enough to hunt myself. I got into bow hunting and rifle hunting and did both until my wife and I started dating, at which point she fell in love with hunting as well. So now I bow hunt and she sits in the tree with me and she rifle hunts and I sit with her. We have a blast and I have never been so happy to see a deer go down as I was when she popped her first one.

I took my 5 year old Saturday. He saw a doe and yearling at dark and I could tell the way his breath got heavy and when I put my hand on his chest, I could feel his heart beating. He is hooked. He said he would let momma and baby walk, but if big daddy came out, he would leak.
Getting in the shooting house Daddy is on watch

No. Just plexiglass windows. They have a few of these stands for the elderly and younger kids to help cut down on noise and weather exposure. Some might say its spoiling him, but if it gets him in the woods l, so be it. We can move up the trees later.

Nothing wrong with spoiling him like that lol. With the winter temps we get around here I have been thinking of building a few blinds like that to help keep Britney warmer.

I remember my first deer hunt....I was probably about 18-19 and a buddy of mine who hunted alot took me with him......I didn't know what to expect honestly......What I remember more then anything was just sitting in the woods freezing my tail off waiting....and waiting....and waiting.
I never saw another living creature larger then a squirrel that day.......Tried my hand at deer hunting 6 more times with the exact same results.......I finally gave up and tried my hand at squirrel hunting which I was much more productive at....hahaha.....but even so it wasn't enough to hold my interest and convert me into a diehard hunter.....after my buddy passed away from cancer I had nobody to hunt with so I just sort of stopped going and never went hunting again. Lately I've given some thought to trying again, but I dunno.

I like this thread. Less than 1/2 of 1 % of children under 12 ever hunt, not that many more fish. That doesn't bode well for their future. Deer hunting is good and all, and I harvested a couple in the past, but in our family BIRD & COON hunting was where it was at. Growing up I don't think I had a single Uncle or cousin or whatever that didn't have a pack of dogs. Plus a bird hunting trip was an action packed adventure with all the dog work and walking and SHOOTING all morning. On the other hand I have gone for entire deer seasons and only fired one or two times. Both my sons are still active and accomplished wing shooters, my oldest usually knocks down as many DOVES with a 410 as most do with a 12.
