Default I've never been a quitter, but.........

Last week I put down the chew can and decided it was time to quit. I'm on my 5th day of being tobacco free and although I feel good about it, I also feel like crap. The best way I can describe it to anyone who has never been through it is it's like an itch that you can't seem to find to scratch...........only way stronger and much worse.

I believe, in this instance, being a QUTTER is quite admirable and totally acceptable. Congratulations on making the decision to stop, I'm sure you'll be much better off and your friends and family will be happier too. Keep it up!!

Tobacco is a hard thing to give up. I keep trying to quit smoking and soon as I eat that craving wins. Good luck to ya man.

Thanks for the encouragement fellas. It is a day to day battle but as miserable as I am when I want a dip, I'm very happy after the craving subsides and I won the battle one more time. The worst part is that I enjoy chewing, I really wish I hated it because it would make this easier LOL.

I'm pulling for you. I've been free for 5 or 6 years now. Quit smoking many, many years ago. Giving up dipping was a lot harder than giving up smoking for me. I probably could go back to it without any trouble. It's a hard long row to give it up but you can do it. Cancer, heart problems and mouth diseases aren't worth it.

I read where someone who chews 2 cans a week gets the same amount of nicotine as someone who smokes 1 1/2 packs a day. I was chewing 6-7 cans a week so you can do the math and see how much nicotine I was getting. That statistic suggests that chewing is the harder of the two to quit.

I smoked 2 packs a day for over 30 years and I quit a little over 2 1/2 years ago. I'm not going to tell you it's easy, but it IS worth it. Just keep thinking about these three things.

1. How much money you will save.
2. How much better you will feel.
3. How much healthier you will be.

Dropped the caffeine habit a few months back. Might not be as hard but there were days that I would catch myself stopping to get a soda. Used to drink a Super Big Gulp a day and sometimes more. Good luck to you!!!

Best of luck and I know you can do it. Tell ya what. How about every week that you stay tobacco free, put the money you would have spent on tobacco into a prize jar. After a year of going tobacco free, use that money to treat yourself to something special.

Caffeine is not habit forming - I drink black coffee 6 - 8 cups per day - minimum - and I don't have any issues. I sleep well, can go without if necessary without a headache - the resulting nervous twitch is sometimes bothersome, but a coke cures that...

Sack, I'm right here with you. I haven't put it down...yet. But I have drastically cut back. Dylan came to me and asked me to quit, so I'm gonna give it a shot.

My advice is to see your doctor about Chantix. I'm taking it and it works great. Today is day 8 and I think the worst is behind me, I still think about taking a chew but the cravings are very easy to control now.......the first week was a different story. Go for it buddy, if I can do it then anyone can because willpower never has been my strength.

I just remembered a funny story.

When I was in the Navy, a buddy of mine quit smokin while we were out to sea.

He told me how the claim is that you can taste food so much better.

He said the food on the ship was even s***tier than it was when he was smokin lol
