Default Bear sighting

Well about 7:00 am this morning my 15 year old nephew and I went fishing at the neighbor hood local ponds. I was tying on my pop'r, when JT said "look at the bear walking down the street!" Before I could dig my phone out of the pocket and try to get a pic, the bear disappeared in between to houses.
I start walking real fast down the sidewalk towards the back of the houses. I look back for JT and see he is already hiding in my truck! LOL As I was turning back around, I see the bear is walking passed me at about 30 feet! I was able to grab this photo before he disappeared in some back yards.
The camera on my phone makes everything look farther away, does anybody else have this kind of problem? I wonder if I should get another phone?

From what I've seen of them that's about as good a pic as you're going to get from a phone camera. Still looks pretty close to be to a bear without a gun though. jmo

Cell phone cameras are most often used for close-up pics, so they usually have wide-angle lenses. They're a compromise at best, with the big tradeoff for convenience. Don't look for them to ever get better either. Good glass is the limiting factor here. Hard to make a good zoom lens small enough for a cell phone.

That"s funny! WJ

Thanks for the info, nofear, that makes sence.

I live about 1 mile from the Wekiva Springs state park. Bears are relocated from Wekiva Springs subdivision (my hood) all the time. I've had peacocks, racoons, ect roam the yard all the time. The only thing I haven't seen, is gators at the ponds I like to fish.

lmao! Just joking man, I'd be right beside you in the truck.

I saw that too. I kept thinking that surely this clown is is not going to go camping with grizzlies. But there that clown was, petting bears and throwing rocks at hunters. Then some park rangers were talking about where they found the parts of him the bear hadn't got around to eating yet.

That happens here every once in a while, it can be very bad if they are rabid or have cubs around....this is how we handle it... http://www.bangordailynews.com/detail/105845.html

The area we live in is surrounded by national forest so bears are common place around here....the only time we've had people get into dangerous encounters with bears is when someone is trying to chase it down to take a picture with their cellphone....lol.
