Potomac 9/7 - 9/9?
Any of you Maryland or Virginia boys be on the river that weekend. I'll be down for a "long weekend". Fishing Piscattaway area on Friday. Saturday launch at Smallwood, spending the morning in Mattawoman and Chicamuxon and I may run down to Aquia for some Snakeheads a couple hours before high tide on Saturday. Will be in the no-wake area of Mattawoman (Slavins launch) on Sunday morning, heading home in the early afternoon. Staying at the Super 8 in Indianhead. Taking my nephew down, he's never been on the river or caught a snakehead and Doc backed out so I'm taking the boat rather than the kayaks. Planning on froggin' and throwing a few chatterbaits. If anyone will be in the area and wants to say HI! give me a shout.

Sorry, but I can't say. When a professional charter Captain gives you some unsolicited and FREE advice, you can only say thank you and keep the information in the confidence that it was given. I can say Capt. Mike is a pretty darn nice guy, never met him but hope to and maybe buy him an adult beverage of his choice one of these days.

OH, wonderful news today. As I said I'm headed for the Potomac this comming weekend and what do you think is going on. Yeah, FLW Everstart Series is there this weekend, launching and weighing in Thurs & Fri at Smallwood (Sat. weigh in is at the WalMart in LaPlata). Guess I'll stay clear of there until Sunday. Should be busy on the River Friday but maybe Saturday after the cut, not so bad. Should be 150 pro boats or so at the beginning. Maybe Saturday I'll go to the final day weigh in................ depends if the bass are biting or not.

Thurs and Fri would be great days to head out and watch the guys fish. Pick a creek and you'll find a bunch of guys to watch. They'll cut down the numbers for Sat so there won't be a lot of competition on the river. Most of the community spots will be worked over but there's plenty of small areas that they won't fish.

I'm back. Fishing was not very good, actually is was pee poor for that water. Friday was very hot, Saturday just hot and this morning was beutiful. Had tornado warnings last night (Sat.) and pretty severe thunder storm, which cleared out early eveing leading to the terrific cool day today.
Back to the fishing, Friday was bad, we only boated 3 bass, and my nephew caught a snakehead, which is why I took him down there to add that to his species list. Saturday was brutal - storm front came in, winds at 18 MPH and the main river was nasty, I speared my first wave - anyone done that? It ain't pretty, but it was refreshing, only 2 bass boated. Today better, we caught six in a half day. NOTHING great, I certainly expected MUCH better fishing. No, I don't think it was me as everyone I talked to didn't have much better results. I mentioned that there was an FLW Everstart event there - well they didn't do very well either after Thursday's big bag of 20 pounds which is decent for that water. Friday, our first day the FLW big bag went just over 15 pounds, and Saturday it dropped to 12 pounds. If they can't catch 'em, I'm not feeling too bad. Oh, for those that are familiar with my fishing trips - yes I had issues with the boat, nothing major just a dead crank battery (1 yr old) due to a broken fuse in the feed from the charger. The fuse was not blown it just came apart, the glass (buss fuse) was intact it just seperated from the metal end caps. I fixed that but it took two nights of charging to get that battery back to functional. I have to check it, to be sure is isn't damaged, as it's an AGM there are no cells to check but I will see what kind of voltage it's putting out. I ran Fri. & Sat without electronics - what a PITA - and jumper cables to start the outboard. I also have to check the charger to be sure it's operating ok. I should have some pictures in a day or so. My nephew took a few with his cell phone - yeah, I forgot my camera. |
