Default Sunday Trip

Flyrod and I hit the local TM only lake and did pretty well. We landed 11 total including this hog Uncle Fly tricked into the boat.

He may have pulled it out of his new GIANT 50lb+ tackle bag when I wasn't looking . Most were landed on soft plastics except one on top-water. The only thing missing was me getting to fire up the outboard. At least to put my 21ft Bug boat back on the trailer. That was an experience in itself!

We guessed her at around 6. Some others who've seen the pic said she was a bit more. Shame she'd spawned out, in a way. Still, if she'd been "great with child", she might have been too stressed to survive, so all is well.
Great day with a great friend and partner. Thanks, Redd. (Sorry I ran over you with the boat BUT you should NEVER stand INSIDE the trailer frame when recovering the boat.)

NO ALCOHOL IN THE BOAT....EVAR!

By way of explanation; Since one may not fire up the gassie at Boerne (ber-knee) City Lake, save in an emergency, one must needs find other means to replace one's craft upon it's wheeled conveyance.
The Honorable (mostly) Rebbasser and I have long since developed a system that is effective and relatively easy. You see, while Reb fetches the trailer, I orbit in a holding pattern, gauging wind speed and direction. Once the trailer is properly immersed, I make a high-speed trollmotor approach, lining up ala "Flying the ball" in a carrier landing.
At the last instant I chop power and yank the TM outta the water, lest it be bent against the frame of the trailer.
Reb seizes the craft, hooks up, cranks, locks, and away we go.
Now, ReddRooster's boat is a 21'. This imposes a new learning curve.
As might be expected, I orbited, making my calculations vis-a-vis the wind, and attempted a landing.
Perhaps given my newbieness to this combo, or the trailer not being deep enough...who cares...before ReddRooster could snatch and hook, the boat had swung crossways to the trailer. So...I go around again...BOLTER! BOLTER! BOLTER!. On the second pass...same song, second verse.
On the third attempt I charged between the fenders but then realized to my abject horror that my much-liked and respected friend (Rooster, R.) was standing between the first and second crossmembers of the trailer.
There was nothing I could do save for wondering if I had the strength to lift a new double amputee out of the water (Well, he would be lighter, I guess.) Luckily, and with not a millisecond to spare, my friend sprang, (like a Gazelle, he was!) out of harm's way, though not without minor bruising to his underpinnings.
On reflection...the TM is virtually the same that powers Rebbasser's rig, a much lighter craft. Ergo, I need to do some figuring re the lower maximum speed.
As if that weren't enough; We got the boat winched on and pulled her out, only to find she was tilted on the trailer. So, back in the water, RR gets in up to his...you know...and aligns it. Off we go!
On the bright side, the ramprats haven't been so entertained in quite a while.

Note to RR: PLEASE POST the rest of the pics of the other fish, yours included. I want our fiends...er...friends to see what a normal Boerne (ber-knee) keeper looks like...some of the pretty background too.
WHY did we not photog that swimming Coral Snake? Shock and Awe, I guess.

Officially, it's about one hundred acres, according to the official City of Boerne (ber-knee) site.

http://www.ci.boerne.tx.us/Default.aspx?tabid=242

A very quiet place, as a rule, and pretty too, especially as you enter the creek and wander upstream.

My best day ever at Boerne (ber-knee)? Weighed and released 10 bass for 48 pounds...eight on topwater, 1984 (or '85). Largest from there? Just over 7.

Basschamp, it is a pretty good size. It is small enough to fish it all day with only the trolling motor, but how long you can fish depends on how much you use the TM. One time Flyrod and I burned too much battery to get back to the ramp in the headwind we were dealing with. He called the Sheriff's office, told them our predicament and they told us it was OK to fire up the big engine to get back to the ramp. So that is what we did.

Not so much, really. Mostly just keeps waving his wand at the water and commanding the bass to bite. The bass must be hard of hearing.
He did accidentally conjur up a Coral Snake that morning.
I think we've got his meds straightened out, finally.
