Any ideas for persuasive speech on fishing
I am writing a persuasive speech on why fishing and hunting is necessary. Some of my main points are, overpopulation, getting people off the couch and such. Any more ideas would be greatly helpful

This kind of goes hand in hand with getting people off the couch as well as the bonding point that bassinbob made. But the more time a kid spends in the woods or on the water, the less time he has to get involved with any of the temptations that get so many kids in trouble these days.

Survival techniques.
Proper safety with firearms. If you don't touch on the mercury concerns, you can also discuss the health benefits of meat that is less fatty than farm raised beef and pork.

How about simply because it's natural?

All the above is very useful. It also teaches us to be conseritive and to learn how to use our naturel resources. Preserving our resources for future generations. It helps us conserve what we have so we don't lose it. And it is FUN!

I don't mean to poke holes in your thought Bama, but I think he needs to avoid saying why it is fun. Fun is too relative to an individual person. Focus on facts that can not be debated such as conservation and the use of natural resources. Always try to avoid subjective statements.

Same reason football, baseball, and any other sport is! It's fun, bonds parents and kids, and relives stress!
And if you think about it fun IS necessary!

Because when the zombies attack and man-kind finally abolishes the disease, were gonna have to rebuild...The role of hunter/gather will be back in full effect....Fishermen and hunters will be depended on for this, seeing how were already in survival mode and highly skilled. The men who spent there lives on the couch watching ''Grey's Anatomy'' and drinking diet coke well be put in charge of picking berries, gathering wood, and sewing clothes....Lumberjacks well be third in chain of command...Any man who is handy with an axe and chainsaw well be in charge of protecting the women/children while the Hunters are outside the camp.
zombies+fishermen+hunters= The only hope for human perseverance

Be sure to indicate specific facts: you say you are writing about overpopulation, be sure to cite the facts. Take salmon for instance, they only have a lifespand of 3-5 years, they spawn and then die so your overpopulation theory isn't going to work here.
Not sure the level that you are writing for (college, high school) but a persuasive paper is like a debate. Also be sure to present some of the common anti-hunt/fish ideas in order to make your presentation appear more plausibe and not completely one sided.

How would over population not work. ok How many on here have hit a deer atleast once in your lifetime while driving down the road. Now lets say people dont hunt or lets just say banned. Now do you not think it would work? plus ur insurance premium would be higher also.

If you really want to be persuasive...you mount the podium and say
"I fish because I want to..." "and there's not a ******* thing you can do to stop me," as you pull your 44 magnum from your waist and lay it down on the lectern. Ooops, there I go glorifying handgun violence again.

Here's a couple thoughts
1) Econmics. A shotgun plus 5 slugs (and a hunting license) can kill 5 deer weighing in the 120-160lb range. That will give you 250lbs to 300lbs of meat vs purchasing it at the store. Much cheaper than buying it at the store. Plus lower fat content so meat is better for you. Same could be said for duck, geese, rabbit, pheasant, etc. Fishing could be done the same way. Bass, trout, bluegill, catfish, etc will give you cheaper food than $5.99 per lb catfish fillets purchased at the store. 2) Exercise. Both of these activities will get you outside and active. Good for your health. 3) Conservation. Management had increased the wildlife population in the US dramatically over the years. Without management the population was overharvested. And much of the land that the VA Game and Fish owns was purchased through taxes on fishing and hunting equipment. These lands are now hunted on or fished versus being built on or closed to the public. Hope this helps. |

Why fishing and hunting is necessary...
Since I don't hunt my comments are fishing oriented. Some points were already mentioned but I included them here just for my own train of thought. 1. Fishing allows people to get out and enjoy the outdoors- in general. 2. Further more, it inspires learning of the species they are pursuing to include that creatures habits and and habitat requirements. 3. Which further inspires an appreciation of natural resources and enviromental threats. 4. Tax dollars (Dingall-Johnson) that sportsmen spend on fishing equipment go back to fund fishery programs. 5. Fishing has no limits- can be enjoyed as a solo endevour, with friends, with groups or as a family activity. 6. It is a renewable resource, that can be sustained by catch and release and or stocking. Plus can provide delicious and nutritious meals when harvested. hope this helps... |

3D made some great points, some of which I was going to mention. It has been shown that without well managed regulated hunting programs, the overall population of game animals suffers. The Indiana Dunes State Park is a stones throw away from my home. For several years, they held a deer hunt to help reduce the overpopulation of the heards. They were eatting so much of the vegitation within the park that the food sources were being depleated, resulting in deer that had become very thin and unhealthy. Plus many of the plants that are within the park were in danger of vanishing forever, some of which are unique to the eco system there. The regulated hunts have allowed the parks fauna to recover, and the deer to recover as well. Another thing is that regulated hunting turns the game animals into a comodity which generates untold billions of dollars world wide. In areas where the elephant was vanishing in africa, it was shown to the poachers that by regulating the elephant populations through strict hunting regulations, and protection of the species, the elephants would be able to provide them with more money over time than poaching provided. Plus the elephant population would be able to sustain it's numbers giving both the hunters and those who benefit from the hunters money a future that is sustainable. In areas where this has become common practice in africa, the elephant heard numbers have now started to increase. Once game animals and fish become a comodity and generate income for families, the animals which are hunted will also be protected from over harvesting to preserve the resource.
