Horny Toad Hook??
I recall back in the summer using the zoom horny toad hook, now i hooked up the matching zoom toad and to my disbelief it sank. I wanted a topwater presentation. I was wondering if it's suppose to sink or if im donig something wrong??? I need to know cause im gonna load up my tackle box today and i need hooks that let this frog FLOAT.... Any ideas just let me know. THANK YOU

good luck! every hook i have used for horny toads and all other frogs of this type made it sink. it sinks really slow and when you start a retrieve it comes right back to the surface.

the stanley ribbit frog is the only one that floats that is close to a horny toad. You could buy a pre rigged tounament frog or scum frog also

yeah i should have mentioned that! if you want a scum frog, there are a lot of different brands out there, but my favorite is the bronze eye frog. it will run a few dollars more but a great frog in my opinion, plus it is heavier so it will cast like a bullet. all frogs tend to have problems with hook up to bite ratio but i have had more success getting fish stuck on the bronze eye frog.

The horny toad it supposed to sink. If you want a frog that doesn't look at the Spro Bronzeye or other hollow bodied frog.
The horny toad it made of soft plastic so it won't float. As for a hook, I agree with Zook, sitck with the EWG. When I use a frog (which is rarely) I use a 5/0 gammy EWG. BB

Zook, I really didn't know what to use, so I asked the guy at the local tackle shop. He suggested 4/0 or 5/0 and handed me a pack of 5/0 so that's what I've been using.
Do you think the 5/0 would have a higher hooking percentage than the 4/0 or is there not really much a difference to make a difference? BB

wow, two years with the same hook. I barely use the have the same bait tied on for more than two days. it would probably be different though if I had a different rod for different lures/techniques.

i've had some luck using the skip-gap hook or if i stick to a 4/0 hook i will hook it alittle farther back to keep it from slipping.

How is that Skip-Gap Hook, Fluke? I saw it in the last Bassin' Magazine issue and it looked like a good concept.

Lunker I like the Skip Gap for toads. It keeps em on pretty good. I also like the Horny Toad hook. The skip is good for other plastics as well IMO. I want to try the parasite thing too. Heard they work great for keeping baits on.
