Haha, yeah, I was very surprised when I found that the forward part of my rod lockers were the boat bottom. Nothing but carpet and 1/8" of aluminum between wet and dry.
That is why I'm not going to fasten them anywhere but at the top. I'm going to use an L-bracket and bolt them into the 2x2 aluminum frame at the top (you can just see it in the photos). So they will sort of "hang" from the top, but they will be rigid.
