Bassmaster Classic questions.....
Anybody ever been just to watch? They are fishing in Lay Lake about 45 minutes south of my house and weighing in at the Birmingham Jefferson Civic Center about 30 minutes north. I've never been to one of these but I know they pack them in for the weigh ins. Do they have an expo or other interesting reasons to go? Anyone know the cost? What about going down to the lake? As a novice who is obsessing a bit as spring looms is this something worth doing? Or not so much?

I went last year and if it is that close to you, YOU HAVE TO GO! It was the most fun I have ever had in my life. There is no way you should miss watching take off, get there early enough to watch them launch the boats too because it is awesome. Also there is an expo where the bait monkey and all of his friends are running wild attacking everyone, there are pros all over the expo giving seminars and signing autographs as well. The weigh-ins are a blast and yes get there early and get a seat because they pack the joint. And here is the best part.............Its all free!!! yep not a single admission charge for any of the stuff going on. Man my wife and I were planning on flying down to Alabama and watching it this year but with us having the baby and all it's not as easy to fly down there as we thought it would be (we would miss the little guy too much). Dude if you don't go you will regret it, I promise.

I can make B'Ham in about 3-4 hours depending on the states finest sitting in the medians. I will be home the 17th from offshore, hmmmm. Bubba is scratching his chin and contemplating and engineering a plan, I have 2 weeks to act. Slick I would be there with the folding chairs Wednesday if I were you. It is the bass fisherman's Talladega and Super Bowl.

If you do go, you will not be kicking yourself later for not going. I have family close to you, brother in B'ham and my mom lives south of you in Wetumpka. I grew up in Montgomery. I tried to get time off work to make a trip down there but work is not letting it happen.

never been to a classic but i went to the forrest wood cup last year and i'm sure the classic is very similar. In short it's like comic-con for bass fishermen. The pros are available for autographs, photo's, they do seminars, and the expo has everything you could every want or dream of.

Slick, we've been 3 times I would ever year if possible. The expo are awesome the weigh-ins are great, the whole experience is wonderful. At the expo you'll meet all kinds of pros and the BAITMONKEY. Anything and everything for bass fishing you can think of.
One word of advice---DON'T FORFGET YOUR CAMERA---ok so that's 4 words. If I lived that close I would go everyday.

You won't want it to end. I've been twice, and both times I was not ready to go home. I can't wait to go again!

I went when it was in Pittsburgh. Had a great time with the pros and trying to beat back the bait monkey. Don't miss it. I almost won the boat they give away free. The guys first name was the same as mine. lol

I may grab a buddy and go down to Lay Lake for the blast off and to scout the area since I've never laid eyes on it. Gonna be a cold morning on the water - forecast calls for low Thurs night of 20something and possible snow with a high of 45 Friday. Might hit the expo earlyish on Saturday. Would be nice to say hello to whoever might be there.....
