Good all around line
I'm gonna get a new rod for swimbaiting, carolina rigging, frogging in light cover and big crankbaits(over 5/8 ounce). But I can't decide on a line and I've been talking with one of my friends for over a week on what line to get but I'm still not sure.
Thanks for all the help. |

I probably go with 14 lb test mono Sufix Elite for all the lures you listed. Not recommended but will do just fine though.

disclaimer...my opinion only and just started using it this year.
i've switched my general purpose line to silver thread co-polymer, it has good abrasion resistance, less memory than flouro, and less stretch than mono. i'm using excalibur on my jig/heavy cover apps and AN40 on my crankbait setup. |

30lb braid, with a mono/FC leader if needed
Nuff said!

Exactly. Might loose the leader for the frogging as it serves no real purpose.

Bagleys Super SilverThread in 14 pound test. Or, if your occationally fishing around moderate and heavier cover along with open water then maybe Bagleys Excaliber SilverThread.

For swimbaits, I guess 7'6"+ MH-H is good for swimbaits. For C-rig, I prefer a 7' H or XH rod. frogging, is 7-7'6" H and crankbaits, I'd use a 7'6" MH, but a crankbait rod has a lot slower of an action than the rest of them. Swimbaits:15lb fluoro (seaguar) C-rig: 40lb braid mainline (Sufix) and fluoro leaver (Stren fluoro for leader) Frog:30lb braid. Deep crankbaits: 10lb mono. If you use braid, you DEFINATELY need to use a slower action rod. BB

yeah big game mono is great... but for frogging and c-rigging and throwing a jig you can use braid and you will love it.... but if the swimbait has a big action it will get hung on the treble hooks everytime.....
the truth is one line cant be used for every application

This is only going to be my second baitcaster and I can't really afford to get another rod until next year so I will have to make due with what I have. I was thinking about floro but how manageble is #15-20 floro?

I've used 15lb P-line fluoro on a baitcaster, and it wasn't bad. I've used 20lb Stren fluoro as leader for pitching/flippin in really clear water, and I don't think I'd use it as a mainline, it's fairly stiff. Right now, I'm using 12lb Seaguar InvisX, and I love it. By far the best fluoro I've used to far. I will stess this though, fluoro will alright for the cranks, but you really do want a rod with a slower action. And for frogging: fluoro gets a huge NO. Fluoro sinks, making it less than ideal for topwater presentations. BB

I have said it before and I will say it again. Get yourself some McCoy Mean Green copolymer. The stuff is great and won't break the bank. Once you go green, you won't go back to any other brand.

Your selection of different applications really would IMO require a couple different lines, but if I have to pick one I'd go with 50 lb braid-has the diameter of 12 lb mono. A C-rig and frog I won't throw on anything but braid, and a swimbait and big crankbait will perform well on braid, although I prefer mono for those.

McCoy is great line. Limp for good knots, low visibility, strong, and less stretch than most mono. Good price too

if you want to go with braid, then i would suggest spiderwire...it is fairly cheap as far as braid goes(10 bucks i think)
if you want to go with mono, i would say berkely big game in 14lb....u can get a 900 yard spool for like 9 or 10 bucks. good luck, -spro |

I tried spider wire and did not like it, I think that I am going to go with braid but not sure if I am going to buy tuf line or suffix.

I read that power pro had an oval shape and that it waraps around the rod tip alot and makes a wierd noise.
