Default reel to match my crankin croix and crank bait ??

so finally went and picke my triumph up today, a 7 M action rod rated up to 3/4oz. what is a descent reel and ration to match so no more than 100.00 but like 60-75.00 range better as i will have slow cash down till spring season really begins. also around march my campground will open up, so more lake and ponds to fish, so my question is, i know line tells how far a crank will dive, so what is a good line for the reel and if i am fishing shallow 2-3 foot range most of the times.

thanx guys

Hard to go wrong with a BPS pro qualifier, they are on sale quite often for $79.

If you are only going to fish shallow cranks, I would go with a 6.4:1, and spool it with a 12-15 pound mono. I prefer Sunline Super Natural, but any name brand mono will do.

The PQ is a great reel and comes in a variety of gr's. Another reel I would check out is the Daiwa Exceler, it is now offered in a cranking gr.

Hold the rod high,pd test line effects how deep they dive likeless with 12lb than 10,type of shallow crank some dive deeper than others,as for reels the pq i have several used ones with 6/2/1 personally prefer even slower with floating crankbaits.
A floating rattletrap does dive less deep than a normal one,and can be used in 2 ft of water.Angle of the bill a shallow shadrap or rc 1.5 wont dig in bottom quite so easily.
So quite a few factors,I often fish from the bank in heavy veggies(lilly pads) but tend to avoid treble hooks when thick, but do use those two when theres spaces between and about 2 ft deep.

A 10# diameter line will usually let cranks reach their max depth. For the shallow cranking like you're doing you don't need a special reel with a low ratio (IPT). I'd look for a fluoro for abrasion resistance and look for objects to bang off of.

Why mono, I usually fish CB's with fluoro(10-12#)?

Ryan has stepped away from his desk right now but I'm guessing it's because dude says he's fishing from shore and only using shallow cranks?

Many folks prefer to use a floating line to fish shallow cranks.

The Exceler and the Trillionaire are better reels than the Strikeforce. The Trillionaire is basically an Exceler with a few more bearings and a black paint job. They haven't made them in a few years but you can still find them on Ebay and Amazon. The Strikeforce is an entry level reel with a graphite frame and probably has a bunch of plastic parts, drag star etc.. The Exceler is a good reel that will last you a long time, the Strikeforce probably won't.

What he said. Plus, I generally prefer mono over fluoro. The only fluoro I use is 12 lbs on my deep cranking rod. Everything else is either mono or braid.

Sorry for the delay, but like the other's have said I throw my shallow cranks on 16 lb. Sunline Super Natural. 16 lb. may sound high but it is the diameter of most companies 12 lb. test (.33 mm) I like to throw them on mono to give me a little stretch.

I do throw my medium cranks (6-12') on 14 lb. Sunline Super Sniper FC, and my deep divers on the same 14 lb. FC as well. I do this to get them a little deeper.

so i went fishing, got laszy and just took my pfluger 6;2:! on my shimano volt somthing. any i hope i can get this question out right...SO>>>>>>
the rod i got for cranks in M action with moderate tip, the rod i used today was a MH with fast tip, use 1/2 oz kvd red eye, it weighted the end of my rod slightly, but when i ripped the cran heck it felt like a had a bass and my rod bent half way down. so my question is will the medium avction triumph i bough for cranks do this since the MH action did, or is it in the tips, since the volturous rod has a fast tip, that way it made the rod bend.. i know the volt rod will be used for T-rigged and other soft platic appications but today slept in and was in hurry...

get it all , so in a nut shell wil my M action triumph bend and fell hevy like my MH volt with a fast tip, or was it all in they way the tips were.. soo sorry for this hope i didn't confuse yall
