Hey Folks, The oil alarm on my 1989 merc. 175hp black max started sounding while running on lake of the ozarks this past weekend. I tryed opening the cap on the reservoir allowing the oil to fill the tank, but it didn't go off.The oil is flowing properly through the pump and lines, I have clear oil lines, so I believe the problem to be in either the cap or the alarm module. Does anyone out there know how to test these items to see if they are working correctly eather with a meter or some other means.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,Bill |

Cap not being full on can cause that.

I had a Merc that the oil out alarm went off many times. Turned out to be the upper resavour cap. It had the smallest of a crack in it.
Another time same issue and it turned to be the clear lines to the pump where eatin up by newer fuels. Both times it was a simple issue that took on a life of it's own. Capt Mike
