Fiberglass repair
Ok, so the new boat is not perfect. There's a gouge on the keel that I believe I need to fix before I put a keel guard over the top of it. I think I can use some Marine Tex to fill it in, good as new, but I wanted some opinions first.
Is Marine Tex my best option here, or what? Also, what needs to be done to prep the area, first? Thanks for the help. The quarter is supplied as a scale reference. I'm not giving it to you just because you help me.

dosent look like it hit the fiberglass, if so very lightly so a marine tex epoxy kit should do it. i'd think just hit the surrounding edges of the outer coating [cant think of the name of it] where the repair will meet up to it, and it should bond with the fiberglass okay. then just try and get it as level as possible when you do the repair and sander down

The quarter does a good job of showing us how wide the gouge is, but the depth of the gouge, as Photog alluded to, is the pertinent issue here. If the fiberglass mat wasn't damaged, you'll probably be in good shape with just some good surface prep and some new resin to fill it. If the mat was damaged, you'd probably need to "patch" it with some more fiberglass, but again, that is not a really complicated fix. Just sand it down nice when you're done, seal it, and put your new keel guard on.
