Painting a reel?
I'm a little new to fishing I've never taken apart a reel before or anything but I wanted to repaint the reel on my boyfriends fishing pole for his birthday. Its an aluminum spincasting reel? Spinning reel? I've seen them called two different things. Could you guys tell me what i need to do and what to use? I know I need to do alot of prepwork. I dont mind taking a few weeks to do this i want to do it right.

Welcome to the forums! I wish my wife would paint a couple of my reels. Visit this guys website. Take pictures of before/after and then show them to us.

There's not much to paint ona spinning reel besides the frame and that would mean stripping the reel. I would recommend against painting the spool itself since it may alter the way line flows off of it. For anyone else pondering similar projects on a baitcaster be sure to tape off areas of close tolerance. I had reels in for repair that had been painted with no regard for reassembly and it wasn't pretty.
