Default First Lightning Pic

Last week we had a very electrical storm move through the area. About half way through, the rain still hadn't started so I grabbed my camera and tripod and went outside in the 25-30mph wind to try and snap some shots. I ended up with 1 good shot with over 150 pics taken; some were blurry from the wind and many more were blank, lol.

Thats really cool Anthony. I remember seeing an attachment that is attached to the camera body that detects a lightning strike and takes the photo far fasteer than any human can react to. Don't know what it's called but you might want to check it out.

That's awesome, Anthony. I'm impressed. I have yet to get a decent lightning pic.

Thanks everybody! This was my first lightning shot, and while it's not perfect, I was pretty happy with it being my first.

Keith, I've heard about those. It's a very interesting piece of equipment that I'm sure would be fun to use. But I've got too much on my wishlist to get something I won't use a whole lot.

Nice photo! Dang you for not leaving the EXIF data though. How long was the shutter open?
I had a lighting storm near me last week and was really frustrated since I didn't have a tripod.

Chris, sorry about that, I usually post the pics as a link back to my Flickr which has all the EXIF. I don't mind sharing it all, so don't hesitate to ask on any of my pics.

Camera - Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi
Exposure - 1
Aperture - f/29.0
Focal Length - 32 mm
ISO Speed - 100
Exposure Bias - 0 EV
Flash Off, Did not fire

This shot was taken shooting in full manual. Aperture as small as possible (wasn't too dark, so I wanted to let the least light in as possible). My aperture would have been probably around f/14 or so if I was shooting at night (which would have been better, IMO). I was shooting on BULB so I could control the exposure time. I was actually surprised to see it was only as exposure of 1 second. It wasn't dark enough out do leave the shutter open and wait for the lightning (another reason shooting at night would've been better); I ended up with horribly over exposed pictures that way, lol. So I was shooting in shorts bursts of 1-3 seconds on BULB.
