Live mice as bait?
i had a click in my mind last night while i was tryin to go to sleep, and i was hearing the mouse in my attic ARGH! we have a couple mouse traps that just hold the mouse and dont kill it, also where my mom works they get mice on gluepads all the time wich i think is just cruel, i mean they get stuck and just starve to death and when they struggle they just get more stuck, she works at a petstore thats why there are mice. but anyways what do you guys think about using mice as live bait? it think it would look very tempting to the bass, a little four legged critter squirmin around on top tryin to swim to shore. plus it will help rid of the mice we have and put them to good use instead of just killing them

Rats work fine, so mice should also. However I must say your post says you feel bad about them being starved, how do you feel about them being drowned and eaten?

Hook it through the meaty part of the leg. It will stay alive longer that way. Thats how i do frogs if my cousins catch one.

well bubba bass the mice are bred to be eatin, those little tiny ones are pinkys, just baby mice that are fed to lizards and snakes, my mom works at a pet shop and i see that stuff all the time, pretty kool really. but it jsut depends on who you talk to, some people have moral isssus i say f*c* Peta cause they are tyring to take away our fishing. but a lil off topic. those mice , the white ones are bred to be killed, you know the eggs you eat for breakfast? you ever seen the hens that produce those? all their lives they just sit in a little pen just big enough for them to fit in and are given hormones to produce more eggs, not allowed to run around at all they just sit there squeezin out eggs all their lives, sa dreally but we take animals for granted and you cannot denie it, you ever see a video of a slaughterhouse? i didnt eat meat for about a week till i got that vid out of my head. maybe you should watch it too, it will freak you out, no im not vegitarian or nuthin i just think its cruel.

Dont know if i want to see the slaughter house, and Mice Compared to Eggs naaa the eggs dont kick do they lol. (i know you did not compare the eggs just thought i would say it)
i dont agree with it but thats me. If it happens in the Wild its cool no prob.\ You make good points were kinda the same way (the whole slaughter house) just seems different. |

Egh as far as I'm concerned those feeder mice were going to be fed to something some time or other. Personally if I were a mouse I'd rather just get it over with quick like the pink fella. Just my opinion though

Whoa everyone! Chill out...I just posted those videos as a demonstration that bass will eat mice and because it's interesting. There were no alterior motives here. It makes me think about what makes that mouse so irresistible to the bass...maybe its tail or even its little button nose?

I am betting those bass are eating those mice because they haven't got the option to choose anything else to eat. Sure, they will eat mice in the wild but if that is all they are offered, then yeah they will eat it. I bet if they dropped a peice of ham in there the bass would tear it up also. If you look, you will notice that the bass is sitting waiting on it's food. That tells you that it will eat whatever they drop in there simply because it is trained to eat at that time.

Small frogs/ toads are easier to use and get bit by the big girls! We net them in summer in a drainage ditch near where I live and when artificials don't work, I give them a frog. Too bad smallies don't prefer them.
As far as house mice are concerned, once I catch them on a sticky pad, I pound their skulls in for leaving their droppings all over the place! |

flyrod,
actually you hook them through the eyes right at the snout, and they stay active a long time...I rig them that way or through the lips, its a lot better than the tail or killing them by putting it though the back. |

I will always prefer to use artificials, it seems like cheating to use live bait.
So...when I cheat, I use bluegills hooked in the back. I've tried frogs hooked in the leg and got nothing but dead frogs. I think the same thing would happen with the mouse. Using bluegills allows for double the fishing fun, and catches nothing but monsters.
