Help!!!!! MY bastcaster's line guide won't move
Hi, i got an ABU GARCIA AMBASSADUER 1003 LP (not sure thats importnt)but my line guilde, the thing that moves when you reel in to distribute the line evenly, will not move. I have tried oiling, using pliers to move it ( it moved but won't without me manually moving it), and cleaning it, nothing works. Any suggestions would me welcome, Thank you!!

Hey, Welcome to the Nut-House.
I think that's a problem that happens sometimes with Abu reels. There's a part that had broken, but unfortunately, I can't remember what it is. There are guys on here that will know how to help ya though. Man, I'm having a brain-fart, sorry. BB

Welcome to the forum!
Sounds like the worm gear-the grooved rod the line guide moves along. They wear out on occasion. the first thing I would do is to disassemble the reel and clean the line guide and worm gear real well. If that doesn't work if you don't have a reel repair place where you are you can order the part on line. If you go that route I'd get both the gear and a new line guide. You probably don't need the guide itself but there is a fitting that goes inside it that runs in the groove in the worm gear.

It's common with Abu reels. The pawl probably needs replacing. I've fished Abu reels for decades. I carry a pill bottle with pawls in it. You can get them from your local reel repairman or order them from Abu Garcia. I order a half dozen or so when I order.
Underneath the worm gear is a cap with a slot in it for a screw driver. unscrew the cap and remove the worn out pawl and replace it with a new one. You may have to move the cap backward or forward a little along the worm gear to get the pawl to seat properly. The pawl is designed to wear out so you don't have to replace the worm gear. |

I agree with Rebbasser, Sounds like the gear is stripped or worn down, possibly just at one spot.

The problem is probably one or the other.

I couldn't remember what it was called either, but I do think that's your problem. Other on here have had the same problem with Abu Garcia reels.

Also, I am sure you looked but you might check to ensure that the worm gear its self is turning. If not there is a problem with in the cover. I have had that issue pop up before but on another reel. Good Luck to ya. |
