Atlanta Area Small Lakes
Good morning y'all...
I just recently moved to Atlanta, GA from California and was looking for some of the best small lakes in the area, I do not have a boat, for largemouth bass fishing. I live near Emory in the Virginia Highlands area. I tried Stone Mountain Lake last weekend with no luck, maybe someone out there has a great spot there or what I need to be using...does live bait work? Not really new to fishing, just trying to get more in to it after doing it not so often for the past 5 or so years. Thanks, The Bum |

Go about 50 miles south to aroundthe town of Gay Georgia and fish the flint river at Flat Shoals or Sprewell Bluff State Park. One of the most breathtaking locations in the south if you ask me and some good and fast action for the state fish of Georgia, the Shoal Bass.

Thanks for the advice. Do I have to fly fish that river or can I use a normal spinning reel? If so, what tackle do you recommend I throw at them. Anything closer to the ATL area that you would recommend when I just had a few hours after work? Thanks again. |

No you can use all types of tackle. I was successful last time I was there with senkos and spinning/baitcasting gear.
I know there is the chattahoochie river running through north altlanta that has trout, and it is dammed at some point to produce a smaller lake, bull sluice. I have no experience fishing there though.
