Shimano Scorpion XT
Anyone ever fished one of these? If so, what were your thoughts on it? I have some friends who are stationed in Japan (both mainland and Okinawa); providing the price is might I might be able to have them pick a couple up. Exchange rate will drive a lot of that obviously....Thanks

The Scorpion is basically the Japanese version of the Chronarch/Curado E series' of reels. The Scorpion 1000 is the same as the 50E and the Scorpion 1500 is the same as the 200 size. The Scorpion has carbon fiber drag washers where the US versions do not. I'm pretty sure that's the only difference (besides color) but I'm sure someone will chime in if there is something else. Other than the cool, unique factor, they aren't a better reel or worth more than the US counterparts.
The Scorpion DC does offer the computer braking system that can't be had on the US E series reels but it costs quite a bit more.

Don't they make a 1501 deep spool model, that would be the equivalent to the Curado 301e???

I have 2 scorpion reels that were equal to the curado 200's, nice reels.

The only other small difference I am aware of is that they do not have the Super Stopper Anti-Reverse pawl installed. Something I remove from my USDM Shimano's anyway.

I didn't know that. I've removed all mine also, I had 2 reels that would make noise because that pawl was slapping around inside.
