Re: stiff rods
Well along with c-rigging it probably also serves as a flippin stick. That means you can throw heavy lures into the thickest cove or gnarliest brush you can find and you can still force the fish out.

Given you get line big enough to get them out as well. If your going to horse one out of some thick stuff you need minimum 17 lb line and there is no max ;D I use 20 lb line for flipping and carolina rigging. |

Re: stiff rods
uhhh... You only use 20lb when flipping into heavy cover? I'd go with at least 30lb, but probably 5olb powerpro would be best.

Re: stiff rods
Stiff rods tend to be better I think for wrestling a fish out of weeds.
However, once out in open water, I have en easier time "controlling" the fish with a more flexible rod. Just my preferrence. |

Re: stiff rods
A stiffer rod will also allow for easier hook sets. Without the FLEX of the rod, the hook will go deeper quicker. Combined with most of the SUPERLINES you can get a longer hookset with less energy used.
Not to mention my women usually prefer em that way Lizards |

Re: stiff rods
the old buzzard from indy is the first with the lude comment.
i have a fenwick hmg i pitching stick which it started life as a 6.10 mh rod . after a closeure in a "short" rod box. it is now a 6' 1" x-heavy pitching stick. dragging bass out of thick stuff is quite easy. when i rig a wooley hawg tail or a bird dawg on it -still can't catch anything on a pnj. zooker

Re: stiff rods
i use 8-17lb braided lines on most aplications i just use mono when tossin in the big stuff
i dont want it to easy lol i uses medium action spinning gear with 12lb line to catch 20lb+ red fish with 25lb leader just to show yalls "overkill" Â*and a oyster bed is sharper than a limb and comparing a bass to a redfish as far as the fight goes is like bream to gar long as u dont hoss it itlle get there eventualy fightin a 20lb redfish inna grass cut with sharp rock banks is bout like fightin a 5lber out of a treetop |
