Sounds like some of the lakes I fish. Â*I use a jig-n-pig or a creature bait like a Brush Hog on 50 lb PowerPro braid. Â*I can throw the braid into the nastiest stuff and still get the bait-and hopefully the fish-

Now I know more where you fish I'd also tie on a spinnerbait for around the cypress root system and soft jerkbaits like a Zoom super fluke in the weeds.

Run a crankbait through that timber and be sure to bounce it off of the timber, don't try to avoid it. After it hits the timber, pause for a moment and slowly start your retrieve. You'll find that your 'hits' will come after it bumps the timber. (depending on their mood that day, of course)

Use whatever pattern mimics the most prevalent baitfish in the lake.

Be aware of the bottum contour. Big bass like places that are different than the rest. Creek channels, humps, ledges etc...

I second the jig and creature baits. ;D Maybe fish a trick worm because it sinks slower than a normal plastic worm. P N J

The very first thing to remember about fishing in cypress trees is to look up in the tree and make sure there are no snakes sunbathing that can fall in your boat or on your head.

A buzzbait is also a good choice for an early morning bite.

If you are using a jig or plastics make numerous cast to a single tree. Fish the sunny side and the shady side. The fish may be a few feet away from the tree or laying right against it.

A couple years ago while fishing at Santee Cooper I was trying to catch a fish on the nest. My buddy was throwing at a single cypress tree. He caught a fish and said that was the 16th cast he had made at that tree.
