i would go to you dad and tell him "look you are spending $XXX.xx on this fishing gear but i have changed my mind a little and for the same money i can get a lot more stuff and become a better fisherman"
you said you wouldn't be able to aford a boat? if your dad agrees to what i wrote and you buy a st. croix priemer rod and a quantum energy PTi reel you will have a great setup for right around $200. now lets see if you get the stella that is $500 right there plus $300 for the rod so that puts you up to $800. so if my math is correct you save $600. now look at the boats posted earlier, a tracker 10x32 is $400. buy that and you are still $200 less then the rod/reel you wanted. or if that boat is a little to small for you, get the tracker topper 14x36 for $600. in case you didn't know you can't beat a small jon boat on ponds and they do good on small lakes too. like i said their are lots of options if you want to here what we think you should start the new thread asking what should i get? for lines i like suffix for mono and i really like the owner hooks Last edited by mike90; 03-01-06 at 07:55 PM. |

you might have a point... but is the boat seriously that important? i can reac almost all parts of the pond i fish with, probably will be able to nail every spot witha st.croix tournament rod and a stella... never seena boat on the pond. ill try to find a pic of the pond. cuz i really dont want to give up the stella and tourney rod, they seem so amazing

why would you get professional rated gear and tourney rods if you dont even fish tourney or have a boat to fish tourneys out of and yes boats are that important

Abu is good, but nothing compared to a Shimano reel. They are quality. Then Quantum.

Seriously though Cranky, I'd hold off on a boat til you were old enough to drive the truck that's pulling it. And with being a doctor in the next decade, I don't think you have to worry about your dad buying you a boat.

ioneccess- thats my point, i dont think i need a boat so i may as well go for really good gear. wouldnt know how to move it anyways... we have a lexus car and a nissan minivan. and kicker, once again, money isnt the amtter. people say shimano is best, and stella is the best shimano so im guessing its the best reel

just tell him to give ya the money inna bank acount if ur 13 in 2 years ull be wantin a vehicle and you can do with cheaper fishin stuff but ull want a vehicle to carry uself to the fishin holes ive fished with rod/rell combos under 100 dollars for years all that exspensive stuff is for pple with too much money an nice lil boat would be good too i got a pond i can cast and hit the opposite bank but ull catch way more fish from the boat even in smaller ponds if uu buy a 300 dollar reel and u got it out with ur reel and ya drop it and it scratches u jus scratched 300 dollars same with the rod u slam em inna door or somthin and there goes 300 dollars i dont see the sence in spendin that kinda money for stuff imma end up tearin up same with baits a 10 dollar crank bait will a catch the same amount of fish as a 4 dollar one if they are the same i dont spend more than 5 dollars onna bait cuz i know im probably gunna hang it and loose it ya dont buy a brand new 2006 4wd truck to go mud ridin in ya buy an ole junker ya can bounce off trees and stuff u bounce that new truck off a tree and ya gotta go cry and owwry bout gettin it fixed but i myself aint never had that much money to spend on fishin stuff so i caint say in your shoes i wouldnt go bonkers myself but from my stand point i just caint see the sence in it speccial fishin with a thousand dollars wortha stuff of the BANK the most exspensive piece of fishin gear i ever owned i still got it was a shimono sahara spinnin real like 75dollars and a all star rod another 80 dollars and that was given to me i still catch just as many fish as any body i know
i was in south louisianna a few years ago and seen a ole mexican fishin with an old glass coke bottle he had the string rapped and around it and hed toss his wait and cut bait out there and he caught the fire outa fish onna glass bottle the price of your fishin gear dont mean nothin fishing aint even all that important when it realy comes down to it put that money in a savings acount and someday ull bee glad u did
