Best baitcaster out there minus the high $$$
Anyone know what the best baitcaster out there is minus the incredible price on some of them? I have a curado, daughter wants one for her pole. I don't want to spend huge dollars on it, but I don't want backlash everytime she tries to throw out. I am also at looking into them for myself. So any thought on what is the best baitcaster for your buck?? Thanks

Give her yours, and go get the new curado model for yourself. Seriously, depends on how serious she is about her fishing. For fun fishing get her a quantam, is she's into it seriously, I go with my first suggestion.

I have three curado's and love them. I have never had a problem with any of the reels.
Depending on the age of the daughter, you may not want to spend $150 or so. She may or may not stick with the fishing, although I can't imagine why not! If you do buy a nice reel and she doesn't kill the reel and she stops fishing alot...you have a nice reel! Depending on her age, a spinning reel might be a better choice. |

I like quantum energies but they are really expensive. Curados are great as well. If you want a low price really sensitive and light rod I know where to get one.

I definatley wouldn't over look any reel from Quantum or Pfluger! They have a few cheaper modles that are good!

How much are you willing to pay for the reel? High $$$$ means different things to different people.

Something else to look into. I have Quantums, Abu Garcia's, Diawa's, Brownings, and one other that I like more than any of them....Bass Pro Shops Rick Clunn signature series. They have some really nice reels, and they start around 35 bucks, (not Rick Clunn's). Real nice quality stuff.

Have many BPS reels and love them. Again depending on the age a spinning reel might be a better bet. My 10 year old uses a Shakespeare spinning reel and loves it. Just so you know I also own 2 of the Shakespeares and have had 0 problems with them. Bought them at wally world(30.00 each). Will follow up with name and model number tom..

well since all the men have given their thoughts about this ......here's a woman's point of view.....go with shimano....when it comes to daughters or son's....it's great she's fishing...that's the main thing...i have an chronarch mg50 and one of the new curado's....i love them both....money shouldn't be so much of the issue as preparing her for a good experience and maybe someday being on the women't pro bass tour.....go with shimano!!!!....she's worth it!!!!!.....and you go girlfriend!!!!....

Thanks for all the advice guys and gal. She is 10 yrs old, but trust me she loves to fish for bass on the boat and she keeps talking about how much she misses bass fishing this winter. I think I will either go with the Quantum, BPS, or a Daiwa. Believe it or not she is really good at flipping and pitching. She went alot with me last year. Glad to know that my genes have carried over to her. HAHA Thanks guys.

Hey web,
I'm in the same boat as you! I started teaching my little girl who is 6 to toss a baitcaster with my BSF 201 curado and after the first few cast told me baitcasters were much better and EASIER to use than spinning reels. She told me the green reel is hers now. So I have been seriously thinking what reel would best suit her and my wallet at the same time.

It looks like she really knows how to handle a rod and reel, I love the thumb placement on the line too. Good Picture, thanks for sharing.

nice pic islandbass. haha my dad would never buy me a reel like that. growing up in india, he thought sunfishing was fun enough and bass fishing is a waste of my tmie. sunny fishing catches like 80 per hour and costs almost nothing

Really there is no correlation between expensive and "no backlash"
Any reel can be adjusted for line drop , regardless of cost.. |

If you educate your thumb you really can avoid most backlashes with some common sense casting and always thinking on how much pressure to have your thumb put on the spool as its spinning.
