backlash help
:-/ I got a really dumb question sorry! Â*I went to the fish store and got my first baitcaster. 2 years later im still trying to figure out how to work this thing. Â*I know the lines fine because they put it on for me there. Â*But whenever no matter what cast it it always seems to get backlashed. Â*Sometimes into a pretty big bird nest. Â*U guys have any tips or techniques u use when casting a baitcaster? I seriousley need some help on this please!

Re: wtf
Line 2 years old ................ I hope its braid. I would get some new line on there preferably Power Pro because it casts really well. There is also a spool adjuster under the part that you reel in. You might want to adjust your spool. make it loose enough that when you press the button, the button you press when you get ready to cast, that the weight of the lure barely pulls line out of the reel and try it............... I am sure a few others on here can give you some more help..........

Re: wtf
Tie a lure on the end of your line, hold the rod tip up at a 45 degree angle, push the thumb bar down and see how fast the lure drops, using your thumb on the spool to slow the process. Now if the lure drops fast or more than several feet, take the control button knob that controls the lure drop, and tighten it until the lure will only drop about a inch and stop.
This varies from person to person, but the main thing is to adjust every single dif. weighted lure with your baitcaster, and use your thumb to slow the spool each time you cast. Now. on the other side of the reel is a brake, I would adjust it to about 5 if it goes from 1-10 thats a good start, and dont try to throw it too hard. |

practice practice practice i just started using them too and for the first month every other cast was a birdsnest. do it in your back yard n then go 2 the lake n use nothing but heavy spinners or buzzbaits but dont concentrate on catching anything just practice, that way you get good practice with heavy lures and have a chance of catchin one
thats how i learned (and am still learning)

When you recieve a backlash, put you thumb on the spool and crank it up to three times. This straightens out the line and will normally come off straight off the spool.
If you try pulling and trying to untangle the line chances are that you'll dig the line further into the spool.

WTL.
A very astute observation! Yes it was made in 05, and he is still trying to learn to cast. Some of the others are still trying to learn to spell. JackL
