Baitcaster Line
OK all of you baitcaster junkies I need some help here. I have a Shimano Curado reel with a 6'6" MH Shimano rod matched to it. I will probably be using this particular rod for Spinners, and cranks mostly, perhaps some pitchin a little. I have Fireline 20lb and 30lb fused, PowerPro 30lb braid, Stren Superbraid 50lb, Trilene XL 12lb mono, and Stren Original 12lb mono. Plus a couple of more cheaper mono's for line backing. Since I'm definately not an expert, and will be learning to use it effectively as I'm fishing it, what is your reccomendation on line for it? Please remember the max diameter it calls for is 14lb, all of the above listed fit that category. I usually use line this has 12lb diameter as it is for all of my spinning and spincasters. If there would be a better line than any above for starting out till I get this reel down, please suggest it. I'm more intyerested in lowering my backlashes while learning the reel than the line strength, if it has a bearing on anything. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Re: Baitcaster Line
Lizards, since you are planning on throwing spinners and cranks with it I'd go with the 12lb mono. Â*

Re: Baitcaster Line
LIZARDS,
I have about twelve of the Curado reels, and all of them are rigged with Power Pro line. I would suggest the PP #30, which is equivelent to #8 mono. It should cast great. One suggestion is to break the reel down and lube the spool bearings and the levelwind bearing with Zebco "Hot Sauce" reel oil. The factory lube is a little stiff and does not cast as well. Set the weights in the side with every other one in and the bearing end caps set a little snug until you get it broke in, then you can loosen the end cap slightly according to your lure weight. I have my brake weights set at every other one off and it seems to cast fine, with plenty of distance. I think you are going to like the Curado> JackL |

I just bought my first curado reel also about 3 wks ago. I had it spooled with 17 pd McCoys mean green and had my cabellas prodgiy baitcaster repsooled with McCoys (either 14 or 15 pd). I have to say I love this line. Has very little memory and I can cast this thing for miles. As for what JackL said, I have to agree, your gonna really enjoy that new reel. Skeeter |

Re: Baitcaster Line
Since you've already got it, go ahead with the 12 lb Stren. Personally, I've got several different set ups. Mostly with different lines on each for different applications.
Crankbaits: 10 lb Stren flourocarbon Spinnerbaits: 17 lb extra strength Stren jigs: 20 lb Stren flouro. Top water: 17 lb extra strength Stren Twitch baits: 14 lb Stren flouro. |
