Depends on the conditions. If there is wind I want a noisy lure like a Heddon torpedo or a buzzbait. Calm conditions a bait like a Pop-R. A walking bait like a spook or a Sammy are always worth a throw.

I love buzzbaits or a spook type bait. I really like the XCalibur Jimmy.

This weekend I had a horney toad and a Pop-R tied on. I used a floating worm briefly too. I also throw a Spook and buzzbait on occasion.

if the water isn't deep then i like a chug bug or spook. in deeper water i really like to throw a super spook because the bigger bait seems to draw fish up from deeper water and plus it has rattles which i think helps too.

My go to is a buzzzz bait for sure. My largest bass to date (25" 8+ lbs.) was caught on a Chug Bug.

The P-70 has been my go to lately. Ever since I realized I had one or two stored away in the bottom of a box I've been using the one. The other hasn't ever seen the water so it is now retired (unless I really need it).
Stevomac - I prefer the smaller, two hook, older Spook in black and white. I picked up a couple 1970's versions at a antique tackle show about 10 years ago. Nice baits. You'll need to learn to work them if you haven't used one before. |

The same bat rastard that wins most of my club's tournaments did the same thing at Lake Anna last weekend on a buzzbait. Threw it all day, calm and windy conditions, over grass beds. The dude is phenomenal with top water baits...

Topwater isn't 100% yet but they're trying. Had the horney toad rolled on a bunch of times Sat. but no takers. One fish followed it and then gave it a little peck. Had only one fish crush it and it was short on the river. On the lake though I've had some crushing bites the last week or so on the P-70.

I just put on any type of frog if I'm fishing near lilypads. Like the SPRO Bronzeye frog or the SnagProof Original Casting Frog and I get a good number of bass and way more strikes and you will get the fish too if you know how to hook them right.
