HELP NEEDED on wade fishing New River in WV
Hey guys I need some help on what kind of baits work best for smallmouth fishing new river in wv. Also where is the best places to wade fish the river. Thanks

Here is what I'd recommend:
1) Find a shallow area (less than 2ft) with gravel and rock. 2) Find where it drops or rapids above or below this section. 3) Fish the rapids - just above the rapids and just below. 4) Wade carefully, I use wading boots for slippery rocks. 5) Crayfish baits usually work - 4" hula grubs, 3" creature baits, etc. 6) Cast up stream and allow the current to wash the bait down. You need to pick the bait up and be able to tell the difference between rocks and fish. Some bass will pick up the bait and move towards you or downstream. These are more difficult to detect. Most of the time they just hammer the bait. 7) If you get a topwater bite, small topwaters work nicely. Senko's or Flukes swam quickly across the surface will bring up some great surface action. |
