2004 Indiana Epsom Lake(coal pit)
3/1/04
First time on the lake, water temps ranged from 43-47 degrees, which shocked me I thought it would be colder. Â*Air temp was 40-60 degrees. Â*I started out fishing about 8:00am it was raining and 40. Â*I used a Fin-S fluke (Alewife) to start, and then switched to a Bearpaws Black w/ Red flake Lizard. Â*No luck either weighted or no weight. Â*I then switched over to the Powerbait Pulse worm, and pretty much immediately caught a fish. Â*It was the BEST BAIT of the day hands down. Â*I also threw a red Cotton Cordell lipless crank, a smaller crank(not sure of the name) both given to me by ILBassin, with no luck. Â*And I also threw a Green Pumpkin colored pig and jig, and a red shad Power Worm and got not bites on any of them. Â*I caught a total of 5 LM's from 12"-16" and a 10"crappie. Â*All the fish including the crappie came on the pule worm either weightless, or with 1/16th oz bullet pegged. Â*It started out rainy and cold, but quickly warmed up with the sun coming out. Â*I caught 4 of the 6 before the sun came out, while it was either raining or overcast. Â*I fished until about 5:00pm. Â*I did have another crappie hooked and to the boat, before it threw the hook, it appeared to be 1.5 lbs, which is the biggest crappie I've ever hooked into. Â*I had several other bites, which were not caught, but that's pretty much finesse fishing to me, 10 bites to 5 fish if that.(OK all of you are now free to tell me how you catch 90 percent of you're bites). Â*Anyway had a great time, and almost ready to cancel my Vegas trip this weekend so I can go back. Â*Well, Â*anyone want to fish the old coal pit let me know, looks likes it's gonna be a great year if my first day out was any indication. Lizards |
