Default Fireline Crystal

Has anybody tried this yet? Is it really transluscent? I like Fireline and if Crystal is really transluscent I'll probably give up on flouro. I tried Berkely Vanish this summer and didn't care for it.

I wouldnt try it. Next time you buy line, buy 30lb Stren Superbraid, in smoke green. You will never want to use FireLine again.

Regular fireline is black, the new fireline is white, i can see no translucence to it at all. I have some, but will purchase the black kind next time for my spinning reel. Fireline is all that I use on my spinning gear, but i hate the stuff on baitcasting equipment.

Thanks for the link. If there's one thing I've learned about fishing line it's to each their own. As I mentioned above I tried Berkley Vanish this summer and didn't care for it. Yet you will find more than enough people that swear by it.

Exactly, like in most fishing many will agree on something and there will always be a few or many that don't. Just like I hate small diameter Power Pro but love the small diameter Fireline.

i was fishing with a pro this summer who got some of that stuff from his buddy gerald swindle. it was really stiff and didnt dissappear in water like it says it does. it looks like a smaller diameter but doesnt dissappear. he didnt catch anything using it. stuff is super strong though.

I found all fireline is stiff. I can bend it in the shape of my name, and like wire, it will stay like that.

Sometimes I wonder if we're talking about the same products when we have these wildly divergent opinions. I find Fireline 100% limp.

I think the mistake some people are making is that they're not giving it enough time. It's been my experience that Fireline is stiff right out of the package. You have to give it some time. Once you do it does become limp and the castability and handling characteristics of it gets a lot better. The nice thing about Fireline is that it doesn't break down over time from the elements or exposure to the sun like mono does. I'm not saying it's indestructible, it will get nicked up and frayed just like everything else when you're fishing it in heavy cover. Bottom line is that it works for me and until I find something better, I'm sticking with it.

I've been using it for over a month now. No it does not disappear under water like flurocarbon lines do. But it is diminished some but then I'm not underwater looking at it. I have caught fish using it. In very clear water too. Check out my photo on the fishing report page (Lake Anna). The first fish I caught (middle fish in the picture) was in less than 4' of water and was on the new Fireline Crystal. Visibility in the area I was fishing was 5'+ (clear water). Plus one of the guides on the lake, who recommended it to me, wouldn't use it if it kept fish from biting. I was having problems with 10lb line breaking on my hookset and that problem is now solved.
Yes the line is stiff out of the box but like W34 states after a while it does soften. For all the Power Pro fans out there, yes, I like it too especially in grass but I believe it cuts easily. When you fish barnacles and oyster beds you better have tough line that doesn't cut easily. I haven't used the Stren line yet so I can't make a comparison.
