I was sittin here at work recalling the weirder things I have seen while on the water and a few things do come to mind....
Last week while fishin with a buddy, he hooks into a little 2lber and when the fish came up to jump we heard a rattle sound. Cameup again and heard the same thing! We looked at each other and he burned the fish in. Pulled it on deck and found a blue/silver rattle trap suck to its gill plate and body. The hooks had started to rust so we pulled the trap off and sent the little guy on his way to grow up and be caught again. Was really funny!!!! Was fishing with same guy at a different lake late last winter. We were fishing a flooded timber lake. HUGE trees everywhere. We slowly were navigating through the rain and fog. We pulled into a small finger and started casting. We slid under a branch of a tree that was at least 15ft long and bout 13 inch diameter and up about 20ft in the air. We got past this branch and bout 15 ft away from it heard a huge crack. We looked back and this branch was leaning hard. Next second it fell with full force. SLAM into the water. Caused a wake that shook our boat. We were both kinda freaked out that that had happened. 2 seconds earlier and I might not be here to write this post! |

I was fishing my home water of Lake Monticello, i boated about a 5 lber when i noticed what looked like a parasitic worm coming out of its side. Upon further inspection i discovered that it was reward tag (sponsored by the Game and Fish Commission). I immediately jotted down all the info and then next monday called to claim my reward. That's when they asked if i cut the tag off and I said "no, i figured you wanted for future biological data". They said since i didn't get the tag, i don't get the reward!!! Now, tell me what kinda sense that makes, the tag didn't say to remove it, it just had a tag # and a phone #.

I've come across some dead deer under the ice before at brookville lake..also a wooden wagon used to set in wolf creek over at brookville, nothing is too wierd, as long as I dont hook into a dead body..

I also was crankin a point with a brand new plug, hung it and had to break it off. The next weekend i was c-rigging the same point when i snagged, but broke it free. When i reeled up i saw that i had hung my crankbait from the weekend before. One hook from a treble went right through the eye of the swivel on the c-rig.
Not so much weird as it was lucky |

Down in Florida you have all these chains of lakes, where to get from one lake to another you drive up these small windy creeks. Well one day me and my dad decided to go from lake kissimmee to tiger lake which takes you up tiger creek which is only about 7 feet across.
Anyways halfway up the creek, we pass a guy standing on his deck flyfishing the creek...the only thing is the guy is naked except for a thong. I **** you not. I about broke up laughing then but waited till we were about 100 yards away, turned around in the boat and said to my dad "thats the gayest son of a b$$& I've ever seen". I mean we were in old florida, and you are fishing in a thong. I guess thats the weirdest thing I've ever seen just cause it flat out didn't make sense, and I've seen hawks fly off with topwaters and gators come out of saltwater and hundreds of flounder, crabs and mullet beach themselves and allow themselves to be collected off the beach...but all of that has a scientific reason for occuring, whereas the dude in the thong was just random and looking to get shot.

I have been fishing on the water for 35 yrs so I have a bunch.
![]() Here is one... I was on a new lake in Florida one time that I never fished before. Late afternoon a real nasty storm came on so fast that it actually overtook me. I was about 5 miles from the boat ramp and had to stay in channel markers because elsewhere was pretty shallow. It was pitch black except for every minute or so when lightning struck. Even though I could not see too well where I was going, I kept trucking along as I was afraid I was about to get zapped. On the next bolt of lightning I noticed there were about 50 cows standing all around me! ![]() All I knew is I was going in the wrong direction and made a hard right hand turn. Luckily another boater with a gps was going by in the distance and I was able to spot him on the next light show, which put me on tract. |

While fishing on a small lake, I kept hearing splashing and rattlin over behind a laydown , after working my way around the treetop...I saw a 1lb. bass on one end of a rattletrap and a four foot cottonmouth on the other end.

I was fishing in a tourney about 2 years ago and I went up this creek channel in the backwaters and it opened up into this nice looking body of water. It was pretty secluded back there and I thought I found the jackpot. Well I wasn't alone, me and my partner fished while these three middle aged women were skinny dipping. We sat and flipped that dock for about an hour enjoying the show. One of the funniest and best things I've ever seen on the water.

I've got so many that come to mind for 26 years of bass fishing....lightning hitting a tree pretty close to us...getting in storms etc, but the two most memorable experiences are 1) went to lake erie and we were fishing near the canadian border and pelee island, when we noticed a huge water spout like a tornado, with a smaller one branching off of it..as we got closer with the drift we started to see pin minnows that were "raining" on us from being picked up but the spout and throwen several hundred yards, for a few moments..
But my fav memory 2) is fishing a private lake lakengren here in town where the landowners cover ever inch of shoreline.. A group of 17-18 year old girls were at their grandparents place throwing a party in bikinis and wrestling in the yard and doing other "exotic" poses for us ..for about 45 minutes..it was awesome... |

Used a chrome blue back rattletrap to get this one. Ruined my whole day. Police reports and had to tie him to the side of the boat and drag him to Marine Police HQ in Washington DC. He was about two or three days old and had some aroma. Police said a gang kill was dumped off bridge over Anacostia River.. They dragged the river and I was the lucky one to find him. Customers puked.. I did not but I was real close..
1992 Caught a Muskrat on same style rattletrap. Swung him into boat like a bass. Opps...Ran to back of boat and lost 45 minutes of fishing time removing hooks. I was tied for last in that tourny after that day. Capt Mike

I was fishing with my buddy on his pond one day. He hooks into a nice bass with an old Creme worm with the two hooks in it. Just as he gets it to the boat it breaks him off. A couple of weeks later myself and another buddy were fishing on his pond. I hook into a nice bass and get it into the boat. As I'm pulling out my lure I see something else in his mouth. I give it a pull and it's my buddies Creme worm. He was out of town so we made sure to call him and let him know that we pulled it out of a 4 lber. LOL

Was fishing a Spit-N-Image when a fishing crane took it, I got it back, but he sure crapped all in the water!
At the boat ramp this summer, I was standing on the end of the dock, waiting on my buddy to come get me, and a girl flashed me from the back, then turned around and did it from the front! She musta been about 16, and was with a boatload of older guys, makes you wonder. |

The lake I fish is only about 13 to 15 years old, and it is just a flooded canyon which has deer and coyotes and other wildlife in it. We figure because the lake is so young the animals still use the same game trails they always have. There were no houses at this point so it was just normal range land. (enough setup) About 5 years ago we make the right turn after the ramp and to our amazement we see a coyote swimming in the water. It's just dawn and is November so it is pretty cold... but he is just trucking along straight across the lake (about 100' across). He came pretty close to the boat and just kept going. It was amazing! Not a month later we see a doe whitetail in the same spot swimming across the lake! Like I said I guess the game trails are still in the same spot. Crazy stuff haven't seen anything since but the lake is being developed very fast. Anyway, just a neat story!!
