I'm going to get a bunch of new baits soon, and I know these are just broad reccomendations, but could you please suggest some specific colors or models of the following :
-Buzzbait -Netbait Paca Craw -Dropshot Weight -Crankbait -Jerkbait -Swimbait What brand of jigs do you usually get? I mostly see Booyah Jigs. Is a JignPig just a jig with one of those trailers with the chung and two legs? Thanks a bunch. Julien |

Lets see.....
Buzzbait-white, white/chartreuse Paca Craw-Watermelon, watermelon red, green pumpkin Dropshot weight-ummm...silver ![]() ![]() Crankbait-anything resembling a crawfish or a shad, both lipped and lipless. Jerkbait-chrome/blue back, chrome/black back, gold/black back, clown Swimbait-shad or bluegill color, Storm is probably the most widely available. You are correct on the Jig-n-Pig, although the pig part is more often a plastic chunk as opposed to an actual pork chunk. Those I don't use unless the water is below 50. I like either Grassmaster jigs (Thanks, PnJ) or a Cyclone Thunder Rattle jig. Booyah jigs are good. My main thing is I don't like round jigheads-I prefer bullet head jigs-they come through thick cover better IMO.

Thanks Reb. What brand of buzzbaits do you like? What color do you mean by shad? A silver or white? And craws? A darker or dirty brown?

Yes and yes on the color question.
Buzzbaits-Lunker Lure and Booyah are good, but I've caught quite a few on the $.99 no-name baits.

I never thought brand was a big deal with buzzbaits. Having said that, I've used the Strike King Pro Buzz King Jr., in large part because I like the three-wing blade.
As to crankbaits, it goes without saying that you purchase in accordance with the depths you'll be fishing. I've been a big crankbait user for all of my 37 years of fishing, and countless brands are effective. I'd choose from well-known brands, such as Rapala, Bomber, Norman, and so many others. For whatever reason, I have a little more confidence in the original Rapala Shad Raps than any other crank. Many feel that there are five basic colors that can cover all conditions: chrome, shad, firetiger, crawfish and chartreuse. I personally have never been able to see where color makes a big difference and feel that just two colors are all I need, let's say firetiger and shad or bluegill, using the former in dirtier water and the latter in clear water. A great theory, except all colors work in all water clarities, in my experience.
