How long does the average largemouth bass live?
How long can a 2 pound bass live and be released as a healthy fish out of the water? Would tubes be okay with a 7 H rod? Thanks- Juilen |

ok,some bass live over 15 years, some longer, shorter. when i am just regular fishing i like to get a pic and get the bass back in the water as soon as posable. tubes should be fine with that rod size, but i would probably pitch tubes with a big worm hook and up to a 3/8 ounce bullet sinker that is pegged.

Thanks Skeeter. You reminded me...
What advantages do pegged weights have? I have a little trouble with pegging the weights. |

Pegging the weights are easy, stick a toothpick down the hole and break it off!

Jools-there are no hard and fast rules for what bait on what rod. If you can throw it have at it.
Pegging weights-say you are fishing flooded timber. Your bait goes down one side of a limb and the weight goes down the other. Messes up the presentation. I will add flooded timber is the only time I peg a weight. Easy way to do it: take a busted rubber band and tie an overhand knot around the line. Trim the ends and slide the knot down so it is snug against the weight.

it gives the worm a different fall... sometimes that is better than non-pegged.

Thanks. When I see people frog fishing with braid, it looks like they try to tear the fishes jaws out. Aren't you not supposed to have such a hard hookset with braid?

They are also usually fishing a frog in heavy cover. In addition to a solid hookset they are trying to get the fish's head up out of the cover so they can reel it in. If a fish buries down in thick cover it is a lot tougher to get in.

Yeah, but isn't that bad for your rod? Or rip the hook out of the mouth?

Nope, not with a heavy action rod and braid.

Great. So if I'm jig fishing with braid, I don't need to worry about setting the hook to hard?

I don't. A heavy action rod is designed for hard work, so cross their eyes!

Thanks Reb. You relieved my worries. I'm making everything a bit too complicated.

when fishing jigs i find a straight up hook set to work much better.. 90%of the time the jig hook will be in the top of the fishes mouth.. zooker

7' H rod - 4", 5", or bigger tube will work fine. Probably need a 1/4 oz weight or heavier depending on the sensitivity of the tip.
