Went out fishing early this morning. It started off kinda rough. Several backlashes that put some reels out of commision for the day. When all hope was lost, got me a nice 2.5er. and then a 1.5-2er. Got them both off of spinnerbaits. Two different kinds at that. I am hoping I didn't miss the pre-spawn. Going to try again next week.

Good job, Trav! I just managed one dink on a watermelon/red flake Tiki Stick rigged wacky-the wind was REAL bad-the TM worked overtime today. We finally had to go on the lee side of a long bridge with a lot of hydrilla that is starting to crown on the surface.

Travis, I am glad your catching fish, Keep working on casting, eventually you will hardy ever backlash.Until I got there, I made the line companies some money by buying more line than most people. ;D P N J

Yeah, I've decided to only put super braid on my pitchin and flippin rod, and then I'm going to put 10lb stren on all my others. It's just so expensive.

I saw on Bill Dance one time how to get backlashes out in a hurry. I have tried this and it worked great for me.
Once you backlash, don't do anything. Tighten up the drag as tight as you can get it. press your thumb down on the spool, then turn the handle a couple of turns. Then you push the button and slowly pull the line out of the front of the reel. If it isn't a really bad backlash, this will back those loops up and they will come out pretty easy. |

get rid of the stren, it backlashes more on a baitcaster,at least on mine, get yourself some tirlene or ande, heck i even would buy spiderwire xxx mono over that! |

Travis, a couple of things that have helped me out tremendously on backlashes are 8)
1. When setting up the brakes, put them to about 75% of max, this does hurt distance, but at least your fishing, and not picking ![]() 2. When setting the spool tension knob, set it so you have to jiggle the end of the rod to start coming down, same as above, the backlashes are almost non-existent ;D 3. Use braided line, it is by far superior for me on reducing backlashes, due to mono or flouro's memory. 4. Once you have made a good cast, pull out another 10-15' of line, and then put electrical tape on the remaing line on the spool. So when you do get a backlash it's minor, and usually easily fixed, because it's limited to where the tape is ![]() These are all tips I learned, and used, and have made a huge difference for me. I actually don't cringe now when I pick one up. And lastly, if it's in your budget, if you can afford a decent one, get it. They usually are much easier to work with.(that's Ilbassin's advice, and I agree) Lizards |

MOst of my backlashes came from casting, and the bait catching on a bush or a tree. (I was fishing from the bank.) I normally don't have a big problem, its just the ones I got, put my rod out of commission for the remainder of the day.

I have had no problems with stren line. Its good reliable line. You have got to look at the Mustad Thor line or the Sufix lines, they are worth a look , both have very little line memory and both cast very well. P N J

im with you, PNJ. i havnt had any problems with stren. the only reason i switched to power pro is because i wanted to make sure i can pull fish out of weeds. i still have stren on one of my reels. but the other 2 i have powerpro.

I went sat and the same thing happened. Did ok on the bait caster with t-rigged palstics but then used a crank and put the mother of all over runs in my reel. Had a spinning rod with me for back-up. I might be wrong but the braid seemed a little harder to cast once it was wet. Have to get some of that KVD line stuff.
