Hey fellers,
was interested in getting a cheaply priced but quality made reel to have as an "if needed" deal and was wondering about this model....I suppose its rather new(I haven't been around fishing in about 5 months now) so any feedback would be appreciated. http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catal...rTarget=browse |

Ken...
![]() Reading the specs tells me the spool is (most likely) supported by bushings rather than ball bearings. You COULD go to the Daiwa website and get a more definitive answer, I s'pose. Why not wait a while, save some bux, and get a better reel. That way, if one of your "Main Battery" goes down, the urgency to repair or replace it won't be so great. Also...on this and other fishing boards, there are Classified or "For sale" sections. You ought to be able to pick up a dependable and better-featured reel from such a source. Good luck! FR |

Do Not get this reel.......I have never used it but I have heard that the reel seats on the reels are really weak and the reel breaks off it on the hookset often.....don't buy it...got to ebay or somewhere else and find something better....there are some pinnacles on there now..the extant is pretty sweet....extant HL

I agree with Raul, the procaster 6+1 is a solid reel that works well enough where you might not only use it if needed.

thanks a lot for the feedback guys.
Paying a little more isn't really a big deal, just don't wanna spend 100+ on a reel that won't be seein major time. I have looked at the procaster quite a few times so maybe thats what I'll buy. Is the drag star on the procaster made of metal or plastic? |

Good to see ya Ken.
Got no input on the reel though. Hope you get more time on the water soon. Lizards

My son bought 4 the end of last year. One has statred to slip the other three have been good. They are 6.3 ratio. He is only 16 and is hard on his equipment. I let him buy what he wants with in reason and in return he is hands off on mine. He could break and anvIl. I quess that is a left handed compliment for this reel. Fish2win

I looked at it briefly, then passed. I'm saving for the daiwa viento. Right now it's at 200, but I figure it should come waaaaaaaaay down once it becomes last years news....

Good to talk to you guys again, too. Health problems have kept me down for a long time, but I'm sure the good Lord will help me through and I'll be fishing again in no time. |

Don't want to rain on your parade flbassman, but I bought one of the Viento's and was very, almost extremely unhappy with it. Bassintxlady and I both bought one as a late Xmas gift to ourselves last year, we both felt the same way, they would not cast as far as we had hoped, and the breaking system was a bit disappointing as well. The "twitchin bar" was sorta cool, but after fishing it for a while, I decided it wasn't enough to sell me on keeping the reel. We fished them once, took them home, stuck them back in the boxe's and took them promptly back to BPS where we recieved a ration of BS from the supervisor of the fishing dept. We ended up trading them for new curado's. To each his/her own, you may already have tried one and love it....???

BPACA, I heard the same thing about the reelseat on this reel. I would also steer away from this buy.
