my god this is unbelievable. this past weekend we had a storm that dropped 5 inches of ice on us and things got out of hand quick. hundreds of thousands of people are without power and have been for several days. electric companys are saying it could take as long as 16 days to get it all back on. did i mention that it got down to -4 lastnight and the high was somewhere around 15. my wife and i are lucky so far we haven't lost power but we did lose cable and the internet for a few days. we got them back today and the power is still flickering. the roads are a death trap. thank god for my brand new 4x4 f-150. what few power lines that are still up you could litterally step over them, and the majority are laying on the ground. if you get out away from the cities it is like a friggin bomb went off. absolutley no tree tops, they are all on the ground. 3 mile lines a gas stations, and generators..yeah right there are waiting list so long it will be july before everyone on the list gets one. thank god we still have power. oh and it is supposed to start doing this all over again sunday. if you don't hear from me for awhile just assume i lost power. well....wish us luck.

Still are dealing with it here in San Antonio. Not as bad as y'all got it, though. Bundle up, keep warm, and hang in there!

Yep, same here. 4 wheel drive is a false sense of security when dealing with icy conditions. We lost power Monday for 7 hours, many tree tops snapped off, but nothing that we haven't seen before. It was 7 degrees on the thermometer at 5:00 this morning.

Around here they salt the roads after our big ice storms, but then when it gets about 31 degrees the overpasses and bridges freeze up first, thats when IF you are in a 4x4 and hit that frozen stuff, most guys take it out of 4 wheel drive or hit the clutch, the ice throws ya a tad...
Your best bet on ice is go slow, never over 20-25, takes forever to stop, and you'll skid sideways when you are trying to stop going downhill. |

yeah i know that fourwheel drive isn't all it's cracked up to be in ice. but it is really coming in handy in spots when you try to take off in ice and all you do is spin. it has helped a little in climbing hills but i haven't really needed it too bad yet. just taking it nice and easy and slow.

It has not been too bad up here yet, just cold. We were without power for only about 6 hours. Actually the worst ice storm I have ever been in was when I was working at H-D in Kansas City a couple years ago. Everything was closed! We get it pretty bad up here, but I think the worst ice is in the lower midwest.
