Rob when I first started to read the story I thought yea he was probably scared sh--less. I hate to think of the hell those two people went through getting eaten alive. That bear was probably really pi--ed off with those misquito stings from that .38.

Read down a little into the reply's and it says it is a circulated email which continues to change in size. He wasn't a man-eater according to the about.com article and the guy who shot him was hunting bear. Still a big a$$ animal though!! Geez! I'll stick to hunting big fish.

i'm sure that the real story will never be known to us .....but that was a giant animal.....hate to see it had to die to make the headlines....but as the texans say...."when in doubt whoop it out".....hehehehehe.....

my guess is that the hiker was not a hunter and carried the 38 for protection.. the hunter knows bullet placement even if the 7mm is smaller than a .38..

i personally would not use a 7mm for deer in alaska.. to many large animals in that area.. 30 cal minimum..
