Default Daiwa's New Steez Rods and Reels

I saw these listed in the BPS catalog last night, expensive, but impressive. What's the low down on them? Anybody heard anything about them yet?

http://www.daiwa.com/Reel/baitcasting.aspx

http://www.daiwa.com/Rod/freshwater.aspx

The rods list for 350.00, but I'm not sure about the reels, I can't remember if that price was for the combo or not, I don't believe it was.

Just curious....

Bet

I just called BPS about them, the reel by itself is 449.00, guess I won't be getting to many first hand user comments on this one....?

I've held a Steez combo. Not at all impressed given the price tag.

At that price the reviews might be a little long in coming.

It is lighter than this one.

And of course it does have one more ball bearing LOL. And the braking system is different(magnetic vs centrifuge) but I believe I would still stay with my Shimano's. Now of course PNJ will probably have one or two by next week rotfl.

I have been looking, but I never thought I would say no to a Daiwa.I am in the process of chosing a G Loomis GLX rod instead of the Daiwa. For $50.00 G Loomis will replace the rod if you break it for any reason, being your fault.Your not going to get the same deal with Daiwa. Lizards, Did you know G Loomis is owned by Shimano American corporation ?

I looked at the Steez, read the reviews, and eventually settled on THREE reels, a Revo STX, Black Widow 2, and a Smak

The guy who does all my reel work has been selling his Steezs', and replacing them with Revo's, that's talking to me

To be more specific, I thought the Steez felt plasticy. I mean it looks great in the BPS catalog, but functionally has no advantages that I could see. Chronarchs, Johnny Morrises and even Abu Morrums seem smoother to me. And the rod grip was really plastic feeling. Of course I was comparing the rod to the Kistler Helium 2 with those graphite grips, and the Kistler was head and shoulders better. The Steez is light, but for 450 dollars I want something solid and smooth.

There is one Diawa I do want - a Diawa Pixy. I think its still the smallest baitcaster in the world. I just purchased a BPS extreme lite and while its small, its still not small enough - so next I will be getting another Morrum 1600 Sx, a Diawa Pixy or maybe a Shimano Scorpion but I'm not sure if those are small enough either. I really like finesse baitcasting.

No I can palm a basketball, I just dislike spining reels so I prefer to use baitcasters even for very small lures. That means I need smaller reels with smaller, lighter spools - for whatever reason they really do cast finesse lures better. I want to be able to throw anything from floating worms to fluke jrs weightless to light balsa cranks on baitcasting gear. My Morrum could do all that...too bad its on the bottom of wheeler lake.

Not tried to throw tiny stuff with it, but the Revo is about the same size as my Scorpion MG, the Scorpion tosses 1/8oz stuff with 4" worms nicely, though.

I know what ya mean with the smaller bait casters, I can usually go all day without picking up a spinning reel, I prefer baitcasters....about the only thing I can't throw is a light jighead with a twister tail to far, or too accurate

With a good baitcaster you can cast a 1/16 oz lure, with some skill & good handling of the beast, the result may not be what you are looking for; with a Pixy you will cast that same 1/16 oz lure ....... into the next zip code.
