Yes, another day on Beautiful (Welllllll....) Canyon Lake (The Jewel Of The Texas Hill Country)
Rebbasser and I launched circa 09-something at Public Launch #1 and motored through very dense fawg to the entrance to Turkey Creek. Fished there (Crankbaits and TW) for awhile, sans results. Popped over to the right fork of Turkey Cr. and fished the right bank w/o result, then tried the left bank. We began to connect, taking ten fish off a short stretch of rocky bank with some brush in 15-30'. All were caught on 4" Berkley Power Worms in Red Shad. We then ran uplake to Tom Creek, catching 3 or 4 off the main lake point. Crossed the lake to Jacobs Creek Park, where another bud and I had caught 22 the previous (before the big rains) Friday. Nothing doing there so we sashayed over to Comal Creek. Fishing mostly 5" Tiki Stix and YUM Dingers we caught nearly 20 basses asses and called it a day just before 1900. Fish were caught on: DT Series Rapala Crank in a brown craw/fire finish. 4" ZOOM Dead Ringers in Green Poopkin (heh!), 4" Red Shad Power Worms, 5" Tiki Stix in Gr.Poopkin/Chartreuse swirl, watermelon and some other color whose name escapes me at the moment, and 6" YUM Dingers in Watermelon. There may have been some others but have flat fergitted 'em. I'm posting a seperate report on the effect of the big rains, it'll be as a post in the "I Fear That..." thread in the Message Board Forum. BTW, Final Score was Reb and Fly 33, Bass 0. A good day. Respectfully submitted this 16th Day of March, 2007 A.D. Rod, F. Last edited by FlyRod; 03-16-07 at 09:12 AM. |

Sounds like a lot of fun and rather productive day, BTL and myself went to "the Jewel" back in 05' and did fairly well. I know what you mean about the fog, we went during Thanksgiving Day Weekend. It is a beautiful lake that's for sure. BTL caught a nice 4 1/2 pound toad, and I managed to find me a 5 1/2 pounder. We used Rattle traps and plastics while we where there. We also took some nice pics of Canyon Lake too, maybe we can find a few of them, and even show you those nice toads we caught ...
