Default Lab just got back from the hospital

Our 9 month old yellow lab Hudson dove through a 1/4 inch thick piece of glass on our kitchen door yesterday, cutting his left fore arm in a V shape, then also cutting his elbow and also another area behind the pad of the foot..
We quickly found out no vets in the entire county will see a animal on sundays(except horses)..so my wife Sherrill and my Daughter Kaci
bandaged his leg up and then today took him to a new vet (to us).
He gave Hudson 50 stitches and sedated him, he's home now and doing ok, except kinda dopey...
We'll have to watch him, to prevent him from going in our pond, he swims for hours everyday and we dont want any bacteria infecting his wound.
Got some meds to help prevent that, so hopefully the worse is over!

If you can, have the door repaired using Lexan(TM) or safety glass. Wow! Lucky dog (this time)!
Idea...get some little decals or those little adhesive non-skid flowers some folks put on the floor of their bath tubs. Place them about head (his) high on the glass. He will come to recognize those as "Stop, Look, Bark, Wag" signs.
I'll bet most of us here have left our face prints on a clean glass door at least once. I did it a few years ago, carrying a roasting pan fulla grilled doves in one hand and a martini in the other...spilled nothing, thank God, but I looked like I'd gone three rounds with Rosie O'Donnell.

Glad to hear he is going to be ok. I have 3 dogs and they are part of the family and I know how you feel.

I replaced the glass with lexon and then put some wood over 1/2 the window and painted it white to match the door...it looks hillbilly as hell, but after I train the pup to quit jumping it will come down..he jumped at the door today, not even 24 hours after hurting himself, I dont think he realizes how he got hurt...he's doped up but good tonight!

JB, I'm sorry to hear about Hudson's accident, but i'm really glad he's okay now......those are adorable babies.....i want a little dog to keep me company all week....but there are 2 in our home now so i can't get one....but i have a parrott she's my baby....but she's very very very noisy.....but you can't help but love her she's sweet and beautiful.....also i wanted to tell you if you didn't know about a medication for cuts that you can get at the farm supply....it's called cut and heal....it's excellent for helping to heal up bad cuts.....anyway.....give them a hug from Texas.....

Sorry to her about your lab JB. Sounds like he is in good hands though. Purdue university just opened a clinic near here to care for pets 24-7. It's been a godsend I hear for many folks already. I don't know how many window and patio door screen I've had to replace over the years. LOL Our lab Cody recently lost his battle with cancer. He was with us for 11 years. It was heartbreaking to say goodby to him. We still have our Golden Retriever Maggie with us. She is 12 years old. Our dogs do become part of the family. Are you having trouble keeping the bandage in place on your lab??? If so, let me know. We came up with a couple things to keep Cody from chewing his off all the time.

Hudsons got cone on but has busted it up 6 times from running into the brick outside, so right now its duct taped together...he did go swimming once yesterday when our backs were turned, and thursday he busted open some stitches and it did bleed a tad till we wrapped it up in guaze, but one more week and he'll get them taken out...he's still swollen where the worst tear is, but ok.

We gave up on the cones. One thing that helped us was to wrap the wound in bandage, and then we took one of our kids old swaetshirts and put it on our dog. The long sleeve covered the bandage and he didn't mess with it after that. I also made a sleave to slip his leg into once made of an old section of firehose. Added a couple holes to run some strips of material through and tie around his chest so it wouldn't slip off.
