Default Calm before the storm

Fished Lake Monticello (Arkansas, not Texas) as usual saturday before last. Very cloudy day as the pic shows. I only caught five, but here's how they ranked:

9.8
9.4
6.4
5.2
3.7

All on 8 and 10" worms, in various shades of green. 8-12' of water near (but not in) brush. 6am to 9:30am

34.5 lbs is amazing in 5 fish. That's the kinda day we all dream about.

Yeah, unfortunately, things have slowed quite a bit. Last weekend i only managed to catch 4 with the two biggest being 5.5 and 6 lbs. It's crazy on the lake right now, last weekend there were more people at the ramp than i saw during the spawn. Fish are REALLY spooky now and getting bit is tough. I recently have been catching most of my fish from 3 to 4:30 a.m., partially due of course to the heat. Night fishing brings me to a little tip some of you may not know about. When fishing a texas rigged worm, remove the worm from the hook then slide a double barrel jig rattle up the hook and over the eye, now re-rig the worm. The rattle should be between the head of the worm and the bullet weight. It works well for me. Also, i cut slits lengthways down my worm and apply scents in the slits, this helps the scent stay on a little longer. You also heat up a wire clothes hanger and create a cavity to insert scent into.
