Check out some rods that are specifically designed for crankbaits. I know they got them on BPS website

I personally like shorter rods, such as 6'6", for crankbaits, but yours sounds good!

Joolz, if it were me I wouldn't get an Avid specifically for crankbaits. I'd look at a Falcon or AllStar or something along those lines. Sensitivity really isn't an issue for crankbaits-I've never not known when a fish hits a crank. You can get a Falcon or AllStar composite (graphite butt with a glass tip) for a whole lot less than that Avid will run you.

I hope you looked at the lure weight range. There are "crankbait" rods designed to throw smaller cranks and then there are those intended for the big'uns, such as DD22s. Also, rods designed and built to toss the lighter and less deeprunning cranks will often be overpowered by the retrieve resistance of the larger cranks. Choose wisely, for tackle balance is important. I differ from some by NOT spending bux for a glass or mostly glass rod for one purpose. Why? Well, I prefer the lightness and, yes, the sensitivity, of 'phite, even for cranking, especially when using a stop-and-go retrieve. Perhaps even more important, to me, is the overall fatigue factor of glass. Glass rods are heavier, have more "recoil" in them, and generally have not the range v. effort and accuracy of grahpite rods. I've had NO difficulties casting fairly large cranks ( and lipless cranks ) on a Lowrider 5-17. If I found myself truly in need of something dedicated to bug stuff, I'd find a 7'6" in a higher power. Well, to each his own. Enjoy, Jools, you got a great deal on a great rod. FR |

i use lews speed sticks 7' and 7'3'' i also use a 7' fenwick.
in order medium, medium heavy, medium... the stiffer mh is much better at casting big baits.. bass will normally stop a crankbait sttone dead-like hitting a stump- now because of the nature of the struture a shallow diving crank needs to have heavy line 12-14 pound test.. where as deeper diving cranks tend to find less trash 10-12 pound test is good.. i have been thowin the lucky caft baits so depth is a side issue keeping the baits is priority. notice how this fish is hooked... ![]() zooker

I use a G Loomis 6ft 6in Medium, CBR 783, mod fast action, 8-17lb line weight, 1/4 to 5/8 oz. I feel the rod is more important to me then the reel in cranking. I use the rod to feel for anything, humps, rocks, roadbed edges, etc, so naturally i want the best I can get. It cost a pretty penny, thats for sure. For line, I like 10 lb test to 12 lb test. I normally am throwing Bandit 200 series baits, and this rod loves em!!
