Default I need a good flippin' and Pitchin' rod

I'm looking for a decent flipping and pitching rod, something that I'm not going to need to replace in a few years. I'm currently using a medium heavy St. Croix Premier series. What would be a good step up from that? Forget the step, just give me the ceiling and the first appartment below it.

Default The best and second best

The best would be my fav witch I use for both flip and pich techniques is the Setyr 7'6" med/hev Response Series rod it has an xtra fast tip with an ton of back bone and it also has the Rec. guides and life time war.

Next but not far behind would be Gblanks 7'6" hev flippin stick now you want to talk about light my 7'6" rod weighs less than my dads 6'6" g-loomis rod and for 150.00 it is 129.00 less than the Setyr

I bought and used for a while an All Star Big Boy 7'er, but I prefer my Falcon EC-610H. It is much lighter but still has a great backbone with a great tip. I don't throw anything quite heavy enough that requires the tree trunk All Star.

You already have the flipping stick, being you have a Saint Croix MH actions compare to most brands Heavy action.

You need a Pitchin stick ? 2 rods that stick out as being one of the best pitchin sticks made.

1. Castaway Bud Pruitt HG40 series in Heavy action. They sold for $129.00 last I knew.If you do not want to spend that much money, they sell a Castaway bud Pruitt series that is only $109.00.If you buy the this regular series rod, you will want to get it in a MH action for Pitchin, its action is Heavier than the HG series blanks are.

2.Falcon Lowrider 5 power MH flipping stick.I had this rod for several years before I broke it.

Had the Castaway not been cheaper in price, I would have bought another Falcon. I am glad I didn't , because the Castaways have been excellent performing rods for me.They go even though I bought new lamiglass and had 2 custom built flipping sticks made.

Gary, If your G Blank weighs less than your fathers G Loomis, it's because of the reel weight, not rod blank weight.I didn't like the G blank flipping stick I bought.I felt the tip was too heavy, in action and in rod balance.I still own a G Loomis flipping stick, haven't fished it much yet,but most people aren't wanting to spend that kind of money on a rod either. I am about to get a Castaway Standard Graphite JWMH6' 10". I have owned and still own a number of Castaway rods and really want to try this rod. I don't see the Bud Pruitt's on the site any longer. Of all ofthe rods I have owned, I really like the Castaway Rods. $119

I have fished with 6' 10", 7', and 7' 6". I prefer the 6' 10" MH for pitching

No apology needed,I just didn't think the G blank I had compared to the G Loomis in being lighter. My G Loomis might just felt lighter because it is balanced so well, I don't ever get tired of fishing with them.I think Larry Mitchell is an outstanding person who stands behind them, I just didn't get the same warm fuzzy feeling when using a G blank rod compared to other rod brands. What about the Johny Morris Elite Series rod from Bass Pro Shop? What about the G Loomis? Is the Falcon and Castaway rods better then those options? Now I'm not a fan of buying a 300 dollar rod, but if it's going to last me a life time and make the difference in sensitivity to give me afew extra points on the tournament trail, it might be worth it. So... do you stand by your suggestions, or are there better rods for a high pricetag?

It is easy to sit here and suggest that you buy a Falcon 5 power flipping stick, or a Castaway HG 40 Heavy flipping stick. It would also be easy to tell you to buy the most expensive rod out there, for I am not going to be paying for it and I do not have to listen to you b!tch, when you don't like the choice you decided on.

I based my opinion on the fact that you wanted a flipping and pitching stick. For example, Your Saint Croix MH stick. In my opinion, your current stick is a flippin' stick, not a pitchin' stick. The blank action is too heavy to be a good pitchin stick, you will be exerting extra movement when putting the jig under motion to pitch it to your intended targets.

The most expensive rod is not always the correct answer and probably either is my opinion, since we all have our own opinions.I based my opinion on what works for me and through trial of buying alot of different flipping sticks throughout comparing them. The fact is I do not have the money to buy every flipping stick out there on the market, therefor my opinion may not be as accurate as I would like it to be.

The reason I chose what I did, is because of alot of time spent on the water using them and learning a little bit about what works well for me.

In my opinion, you will have a big advantage when you buy a softer tipped rod for pitchin and sometimes flippin. They are extremely easyto put the jig under motion to pitch with, but also on the days they just seem to be there when you go to retreive your jig and didn't feel the bite, or see any line movement. The softer actioned rod will boat more fish than the heavier actioned rods.It gives you a split second to feel the fish before it feels too much resistance and lets go .

Both rods I recommended are very durable rods, priced very well. Castaway rods come with a 5 year warranty, but I have owned better than a dozen Castaway rods and they have not needed the warranty.

I am not saying you have to buy what I recommend, every one has their own ideas, I just told you what works best for me. P N J

Yes PNJ it does. I didn't know that the 6' 10" Jig and Worm rods were telescopic. Those prices are better than Castaway's site. And the Cataway site makes no reference to them being telescopic. I have owned Allstar, St. Croix, plus a host of others and still own Kistlers. I don't know what it is but, I like the Castaways the most. Granted, all of my Castaways are from the Kistler ownership days. I hope the quality is still there.

I dont know much about Castaway rods but this I do know they now own Airrus rods about four months ago I broke two brand new Co-Matrix rods the lady with Castaway said they would be about two months out I siad you got to be kidding me two months, so ok after this I broke an Ultra xl crank bait rod fighting an fish Iam like what the %#*& again she told me that two months for my rods. She told me she would give me my money back so I said ok for all three rods. Two months later still no money or rods they just keep telling me any day now. So I sold most of my 20 Airrus rods and am now with Setyr rods I hope they dont treat all of there customers like that .
