Default Pouring Lead

I am making my own jigs and Weights but I am having a problem with my lead not always pouring good. Now I am using a Lee Production Melting pot and not sure if that may be the problem or if its me. Any advice at all would be great. Thanks,
P.S. Sorry for being gone so long but I am glad to be back.

Your lead is not pouring well and it must be you unless someone else is pouring your lead...stop blaming the equipment!!!

Oh, and welcome back we've missed you.

Are you pouring to a cold mold ? They pour better when the mold is heated up. Welcome back. P N J

depends on what shape your pouring.. the lee pot will do most of them. a cold mold will also hurt your pourin. i dead fill-no hooks,wires- my molds and leave them set a while letting the mold heat up.. the hotter the mold the better. the more worn out the mold the better-belive it or not-my guess is your fightin a new mold..try this put a tooth pick between the two parts of the mold -on the handle side-then pour the lead in. this gap it creates will allow you to pour the smaller stuff better. get used to sprune clipin it is a fact of life..

I also have problems with the pots pouring mechanism. It wont always pour good. It will not pour in a steady stream. I am not sure if the lead is to cold or to hot or what. I heat up the mold by placing it on top of the pot while the lead is melting, Thanks for the advice and the welcome back.

BANDIT,
Part of your problem may be your lead not being clean. Are you using scrap plumbers lead or old wheelweights? If you are using wheelweights, there is a certain amount of dirt on these weights that will settle to the bottom of your lead pot and plug up the pour spout. If you are using scrap plumbers lead, it sometimes contains traces of okum, which contain creasote and can cause you problems.
If you know someone that cast thier own lead bullets for re-loading, you might be able to buy cleaned lead from them. If not, it may be less problems if you would go to a hardware store or plumbing shop and buy new lead to mold your jigs. Actually, no more lures than you will use, it will be less problems to buy them already molded from a lure supply company like Netcraft or Cabelas.
There is nothing wrong with the Lee production pot, I have molded thousands of bullets with one of them. You just have to pre-melt and clean the lead or use new lead.

The pot we use pours from the top. The smaller jigs and tube head molds can be a pita. We use Owner hooks. We make small batches because everybody wants them and if they see a mess of them in your tackle it's hard to say NO, GET AWAY FROM THOSE !!!!

Try using a laddle. It may help.
