Default Spawn

Spring is around the corner and buck bass is horny and momma bass wants to get pregnant and lay some eggs. It’s called spaw time, the best time of the year to catch bass. No, It doesn‘t hurt to catch spawning bass. Prespawn is the best time of the year for me to catch good sizeable fish, I can and will catch them off the beds and return them as quickly as possible. I can usually find the big females around the shallows as the temperature begins to warm, but sometimes a cold wave will send them back out to deeper water but that’s ok, I know they are on a feeding frenzy, and I can still have fun catching the prespawn bass. Sometimes they will use these middepths as staging areas before they move into the shallow.. I will keep track of the water temp and at 55 56 deg I know they are getting hungry, and ole’ carpy has something for them if they are still in the mid depths, I will go in with deep dives and spinner baits and maybe try top waters. I will fish this way until the temp begins to warm up and the fish move into the shallows to spawn. The water temp is about 66-73deg, momma is full, the bite has slowed down and I’m about to pull out my Polaroid lookin glasses’s and do some finesse fishing with small plastics worms and lizards, some people don’t approve of it, but I don’t think it hurts at all as long as I release the bass un harmed and it is usually the male I catch anyway
